Cheryl Jean Findley-Joiner

 

Our beloved Momma, Cheryl Jean Findley-Joiner, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was 68 years old. Visitation will be on April 2 nd , 2023, from 12:30 to 1:30p.m. at Magnum Funeral Home in Center, Texas. Following with a graveside service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Flowers or memories may be shared with Magnum Funeral Home 420 San Augustine St, Center, TX 7535. Cheryl was born on April 20, 1954, in Houston, Texas to Walter and Maycel ImoJean Bosman. Cheryl attended MacArthur High School in Houston, Texas where she completed Cosmetology school in 1972.  She was a hairdresser for over 35 years in the Houston area where she served her beloved clients. During this time, she formed some of her most cherished and valued friendships.  Her clients truly became family. In 2009 Cheryl married her sweetheart George ‘Buck’ H. Joiner Jr.  They enjoyed 13 years together sharing their love of traveling and fishing. You could always find them fishing on the shores of Mexico, Florida, Louisiana, and all over the great Texas coast. Cheryl loved swimming in her pool with her girls, grandchildren, and friends enjoying a great margarita. She also found the most joy and peace in her flower gardens and listening to her birds in the backyard.  Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Those that knew her best called her LuLu and a few of us called her NuNu. Momma will always be remembered for her unique style, one-of-a-kind personality, and always had a good time wherever she went. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Gloria Jean Peterson, Bettye Dean, Gary Bosman, Walter Bosman Jr., and Ellen Carter. Also, she was preceded in death by her furry sidekicks Bridgette and Brandi. She will be greatly missed by those left behind including her loving husband Buck, daughter and son in law, Carrie and Justin Collins of Berryton, Kansas, daughter, Sherri Jo Brier of Brenham, Texas and Rachael Beseda of Fayetteville, Texas, stepdaughter Jennifer Joiner of Houston, Texas, and stepson Richard Joiner. Cheryl’s most prized possessions were her three amazing grandchildren, BreAnne Kelly, Ryleigh Kelly, and Taylor Brier. And not forgetting her constant dachshund companions Roxy and Charlie. Clarence Gene Denby

Clarence Gene Denby, 67, of Etoile, Texas, passed away on March 28, 2023, in Lufkin, Texas. He was born on April 9, 1955, in Hemphill, Texas, to Henry Lamar Denby and Frances White Denby.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 6-8PM at Mangum Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at Mangum Funeral Home on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10am with Bro. Lamar Denby officiating. Interment will follow at West Hamilton Cemetery.

Clarence was born in Hemphill, Texas. He was raised in West Hamilton, Shelbyville areas. He graduated from Shelbyville High School. Clarence was self-employed and worked in the construction field. He met the love of his life, Brenda Denby, and the two were united in marriage on October 27, 2001. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Bama football, and playing on his computer. He loved his family and loved spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He cherished his wife, and memories made with family. Clarence was a Mason. He several titles throughout the years including, Past Mast for Sam Houston Lodge 32, District instructor for District 15, Deputy District Grand Master 2016, and a Worthy Patron.

Clarence is survived by is loving wife, Brenda Denby; sons, James Lamar Denby and wife Aimee, Daniel Lane Denby and wife Nikki, Jason Buette Denby, Nicholas Todd Boudreaux and wife Alicia; grandchildren, Micah Denby, Aaron Denby, Halle Denby, Cadence Denby, Trae Rosales, Oliver Boudreaux, Max McDaniel; great-grandchild, Finley Grace Denby; brothers, Mangum Funeral Home Laird Funeral Home, Inc. Darrell Lynn Sanford

Darrell Lynn Sanford, 67, of Center, Texas, passed away on March 26, 2023, in Nacogdoches, Texas surrounded by loved ones. He was born on January 26, 1956, in Center, Texas, to the late Clarence E. Sanford and Sondia Windham Sanford.

Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Mangum Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Mangum Funeral Home with Bro. Josh Sanford officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Darrell was born and raised in Shelby County. He graduated from Center High School Class of 1974. He and his forever love, Pamela Johnson, met in their Geometry class at Center High School. The two high school sweethearts were married on September 18, 1976. They had two wonderful boys, Scott and Kirk. Darrell retired from the US postal service after many years of service. He was a man of many talents. He owned and operated Darrell’s BBQ and Sanford and Sons Lawncare. Darrell loved working in his garden and cooking for the family. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Darrell was a practical person who provided for his family and made sure they were always taken care of. His laughter will be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Sanford; sons, Scott Christopher Sanford and wife Jenny, Kirk Bradley Sanford and wife Kelli; grandchildren, Jaxon Barrett Sanford, Madelyn Grace Sanford, Maddox Cole Sanford, Laird Funeral Home, Inc. O.B. (Bert) Furlow passed peacefully in his home on the morning of Friday, March the 24 th 2023.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Kevin Windham and Bro. Michael McArthur officiating. He was born in Huxley, Texas, on September 30 th 1930 to parents, Emmitt and Levell Dean Furlow. He faithfully served his country in the Marine Corps from February 1952 to February 1954. Later, he worked at Bruce Hardwood Floors. He served as Justice of the Peace for over 30 years. He was a faithful member of Lydia Missionary Baptist Church. He would often spend his days listening to Southern Gospel Music. He deeply loved God as well as his church and family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice Furlow; daughter, Annette Jernigan and husband Jody; son, Mike Furlow and wife Pam; sister, Mozell Scarborough; sisters-in-law, Helen Furlow and Mae Furlow; grandchildren, Samantha Ranft and husband Brant, Jeremy Yates, Logan Furlow, Taylor McGee and husband Tony, and Alan Weeks; great grandchildren, Kale Ranft, Jaycee Ranft, Blakely Ranft, and Bella McGee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Levell Dean Furlow; brothers, Clovis, James, and Milton Furlow; daughter-in-law, Toletha Harrington Furlow; brother-in-law, Larry Scarborough; and sister-in-law, Joan Furlow.

Helen Tyler McSwain

Helen Tyler McSwain, 80, of Joaquin, formerly of Logansport, Louisiana, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023, in Mont Belvieu TX. Funeral service will be held at Noon, Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation at 11:00 a.m. Bro. Charles Hall will officiate. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Born February 16, 1943, in Norfork, Virginia, Helen is the daughter of William Herman Tyler and Jennie Wimberly O’Riley. Helen married her husband, Billy, and together they raised two sons – John Paul and Tim McSwain. While her boys and later her grandkids were young, Helen enjoyed spending time with them during athletic events and outdoor activities. Billy and Helen also enjoyed family RV trips. A devoted Christian with a strong faith, Helen laid a foundation for her children by reading Bible stories to them each morning before school. During their childhood, Helen worked in the family business – Mac’s Frosty Shop in Logansport and later, she drove a school bus for DeSoto Parish. After her children were grown, Helen pursued her passion as a caregiver by earning a degree in Nursing. As an LPN, she worked for Willis Knighton Hospital. She later retired to stay home and care for her grandson, Tyler. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling to local churches to hear Gospel music bands. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Logansport for over 20 years and was most recently a member of Jackson Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Tim McSwain and wife Paula of Mont Belvieu; grandchildren, Daniel McSwain of Anahuac, Tyler McSwain and wife Peyton of Joaquin, Logan McSwain and wife Kara of Anahuac, and Bailee Smith and husband Cole of Joaquin; great grandchildren, Landry, John Tyler, and Paxton McSwain, Mikelyn Smith, and Harper McSwain; daughter-in-law, Joel McSwain Bumback of Joaquin; brother, Willie Tyler of Huxley; and sister, Grace McMahan of Austin.

Preceded in death by husband of 60 years, Billy McSwain; son, John Paul McSwain; father, William Herman Tyler and wife, Ollie; and mother, Jennie Wimberly O’Riley and husband Pat.

Billy Wayne Gilcrease January 13, 1957 - March 16, 2023

Billy Gilcrease, age 66, of Center, Texas passed away on March 16, 2023 in Dallas, Texas after a brief illness. Billy was born January 13, 1957 in Lufkin, Texas. He started working at a young age at Moore Brothers Construction Company and later working for East Texas Asphalt at which he retired. He was married to his wife, Cheryl Gilcrease, for 29 years. Billy enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and hunting. His passion was fishing, but always looked forward to, and loved, spending opening day of dove season with his son, Billy Jr., every year.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Gilcrease, of Center; son, Billy Gilcrease Jr. and fiancé Hannah of Center; step-daughter, Sally Murphree and husband Justin of Center; step-son Jonathan Eshliman and wife Chelsea of Center. Grandchildren, Greyson Wayne Gilcrease, Hallie Emerson, Brittany LeValley, Kambree Murphree, Kye Murphree, and Wesley Murphree all of Center, Texas; Tessa Eshliman, Johnny Eshliman, and Harley Eshliman, of Shelbyville, Texas. School. Judy met the love of her life at the young age of 16 years old,
Fidencio “Pete” Salas, through mutual friends. The two courted for just a
short time before they were married. They raised 4 children together.
Times weren’t always the best however, they vowed to love each other
forever. She and Pete spent over 51 years together before her passing. She
enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards, and going to the beach often.
Judy was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great
grandmother. She enjoyed spending precious time with her family and
friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her laughter
and contagious smile will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Pete Salas; daughters, Regina Tovar,
Judith Olalde and husband Jorge, Elizabeth Salas; son, Christopher Salas and
wife Mayra; grandchildren, Jeremy Tovar, Courtney Campos and husband
Jose, Pablo Barcenas, Alexis Salas and husband Billy Miller, Monica Olalde,
Mateo Barcenas, Jorge Olalde, Anthony Salas, Omar Olalde, Jonathan Salas,
Troy Salas; great grandchildren, Benjamin Campos, Aziel Miller; brother,
Jerry Lawhorn and wife Nancy; sister, Patricia Lawhorn; nephews, Daniel
Lawhorn, David Lawhorn; and a host of family and friends that will miss her
dearly.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, William and Beatrice Lawhorn,
and great-great granddaughter, Jaxie Campos.
Pallbearers serving will be Jeremy Tovar, Pablo Barcenas, Mateo Barcenas, JorgeOlalde, Anthony Salas, Omar Olalde, and Johnathan Salas.

Sadie Adams Jacobs, 67, of Sour Lake, Texas, passed away on February 24,
2023, in Sour Lake, Texas. She was born on October 25, 1955, in East Lynn,
West Virginia, to the late Auda Adams and Louisa Adams.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 6:00PM-9:00PM at
Mangum Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at Mangum Funeral
Home, on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 10:00AM with Bro. Coy Hicks
officiating. Interment will follow at West Hamilton Cemetery.
Sadie was born and raised in East Lynn, West Virginia. She graduated from
high school. Sadie met the love of her life, Troy Jacobs, through mutual
friends. The two were married in 1986 and spent over 29 years together
before his passing in 2015. She had two wonderful sons, Delano and
Jeremy, whom she loved so much. Sadie was a loving mother,
grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her
sons, and grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, reading a good book, and
watching TV shows on television.
She is survived by her sons, Delano Dale Nelson, Jeremy Wayne Nelson and
wife Cara Loftin; brothers, Orville Adams and wife Shirley, Omer Adams and
wife Connie; sisters, Minnie Cochran and husband George, Rhoda Morton
and husband Edward, Teresa Clay and husband Robert; sister in law, Doris
Adams; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and
nephews; and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.
Sadie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Troy Jacobs; parents,
Auda and Louisa Adams; brothers, Jack Adams, Norman Adams, Virgil
Adams, Robert Adams, Boyd Adams, John Adams, Lucian Adams, Audie

Shane Hooker

Shane Hooker, 56, of Shelbyville, Texas, passed away on March 1, 2023, in Shelbyville, Texas. He was born on June 18, 1966, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Son Hooker and Vikki (Chambers) Hooker Fisher.

Graveside service will be held at 11AM on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Rather Cemetery, Shelbyville, with Bro. Kevin Windham officiating. Shane “Cowboy” as all his friends called him, spent most of his life logging in the woods of Shelby County and surrounding areas.  He spent the last few years in the rock hauling business and working for the county.  He also found a calling in rescuing animals that had been injured or abandoned and loved every minute shared with his dogs, squirrels, rabbits or any other critters that were lucky enough to find Shane.”

Shane is survived by his mother and stepfather, Vikki and David Fisher of Shelbyville, Texas; brother, Jonathan Fisher of Nashville, Tennessee; cousin, Mitch Norton of Beckville, Texas; and numerous friends that will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his father, Son Hooker; aunt (best friend), Jana Fulgham; grandmothers, Nell Hooker Buchanan, Adelle Lout Chambers; great-grand parents, Julius and Vercie Lout; step-grandparents, Donald and Patricia Fisher.
