Brenda P. Grant

Brenda P. Grant, 78, of Joaquin, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022, in Nacogdoches.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2022, at Watson & Sons Chapel.  Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Joaquin.

Born August 7, 1943, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, Brenda is the daughter of Lenora Garcia and Otis Prothro.  She enjoyed gardening and art.  Brenda was a member of Jackson Missionary Baptist Church in Joaquin.

She is survived by husband, Paul Grant of Joaquin; daughter, Shanna Murphey of Austin; son, Brian Grant of La Marque; grandson, Caleb Hill and wife Christina of Nacogdoches; granddaughter, Raelyn Hill of Austin; and brother, Stanley Prothro and wife Carolyn of Arcadia, Louisiana.

Martha McGee Caddell

 Funeral service for Mrs. Martha McGee Caddell (89) of Tyler, Texas formally of Center, Texas is scheduled for Friday, April 29, 2022, at 1:00 PM at North Star Baptist Church, 1518 N Englewood Ave, Tyler, Texas 75702.  Funeral services are under the directing of Brooks Sterling and Garrett Funeral Home (320 N Ross Ave Tyler, Texas 75702)

 Mrs. Caddell died in local hospital in Tyler, Texas on April 29, 2022.

Mrs. Caddell began her teaching career at C. H. Daniels High School in 1956, located in Center, Texas.  As a teacher at C.H.  Daniels High School, she taught social studies, she was active with musical production throughout the school and in the community.   She had award winning choirs that participated in UIL at C.H. Daniels.  Mrs. Caddell completed her teaching career in 2004, where she retired from Center Independent School District.  She taught several core subjects, but was known to many as their music teacher.  Mrs. Caddell’s tenure exceeded nearly fifty years, she impacted generations of families in the community. 

While in Center, Mrs. Caddell was a devoted member of Bright Morning Star Baptist Church and served music ministry.  Mrs. Caddell was active in several choral productions, especially during Christmas times at the church.

Jose Alcides Beatriz, 66, of Joaquin, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Sister Melba Rodgers officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Born May 11, 1955, in El Salvador, Jose is the son of Julia Dolores Beatriz and Cayatano Flores.  He was a member of Willow Grove Community Church in Joaquin.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Beatriz of Joaquin, Texas; son, Ryan Beatriz and wife Kelly of Wasilla, Alaska; daughter, Lauren and husband Kenneth Whitton of Houston, Texas; four grandkids; brothers, Cayetano Beatriz and wife Rie of Joaquin, Texas and Sigfredo Beatriz; sisters, Delia Mata of New York and Edith Mata of El Salvador.

Preceded in death by his parents, Julia Dolores Beatriz and Cayatano Flores; sons, Billy Beatriz and Christian Beatriz; mother-in-law, Jesse Nix; and father-in-law, Bowden Nix; brother, Benedict Beatriz; and grandmother, Eva Beatriz.

Thomas William "Bro. Jack" Forbis

Thomas William “Bro. Jack” Forbis, 88, of Timpson, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022, in Nacogdoches.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation one hour prior.  Bro. Ottis Jarrell will officiate.  Interment will follow at Old Center Cemetery in Panola County, Texas.

Born November 5, 1933, in Center, Bro. Jack is the son of W.L. Forbis and Lula Strong Forbis.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and later served as a Baptist Preacher for almost 50 years.  During those years, he furthered his education by earning his Bachelor of Arts in 1985, Master of Theology in 1986, Doctor of Philosophy in 1988, and finally, Doctor of Christian Counseling Psychology in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Emmons Forbis of Timpson; daughter, Virginia and husband Jeff Meadows of San Leon; and grandchildren, Tommy Jack Forbis and Crystal Yabut both of Pensacola, Florida.

Preceded in death by sons, Tommy Gene Forbis and William Richard Forbis; parents, W.L. Forbis and Lula Strong Forbis; and brother, Raymond Forbis.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Meadows, T.J. Forbis, Steven Jarrel, David Kim, David Lawhorn, and Wade Angelo.

Judy Faye Parker Bailey

 

Judy Faye Parker Bailey, 71, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022, in Shelbyville.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation beginning at Noon.  Bro. Dan Fleming will officiate.  Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery in San Augustine.

Judy was born April 4, 1951, to Floyd and Virginia Parker in Ruston, Louisiana. Judy served her family and friends her entire life, selflessly and completely.  A wonderful wife and mother to her husband and kids.  She was generous and kind to everyone she met.

Mama to her kids and mema to her grandkids and great grandkids, she loved to read and plant flowers and tend a garden. She rarely left home without a sharpshooter and bucket in case she seen a wildflower or mysterious bush or small tree that needed transplanted.  She was an outstanding cook and had a passion for fishing.  She enjoyed science fiction, sweet tea, and coffee.  With beauty and grace, she devoted her entire life to her family.  Everyone will truly miss her as we look forward to seeing her in Heaven.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Pete Bailey of Shelbyville; son, Curtis Bailey and wife Emmie of Shelbyville; daughters, Misty McDaniel and husband Brad and Jeanee Conway and husband Carey of Greenwood, Louisiana; stepson, Carl Bailey and wife Brenda of Centerville, Texas; brothers, Richard Parker and wife Linda and Melvin Anderson and wife Holly; sisters, Elaine Stanley, Betty Massey, Cathy Butler and husband Lloyd, Sue Parker, and Connie Harroff; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Virginia Parker; brothers, Curtis Parker and Edward Parker; sister, Margie Anderson; daughter, Belinda Boren; and grandson, Colby Bailey.

Pallbearers will be Justin Bailey, Ryan Bailey, Russell McLaughin, Bailey McLaughin, Matt McLaughin, and Kenny McLaughin.

Born December 25, 1957, in Ashdown, Arkansas, James is the son of Bobbie Monroe and Jessie Adams.  He enjoyed gardening, raising his chickens, and tinkering.

Larry Smith, 63, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022, in Shelbyville.

Graveside service to be held 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Carroll Cemetery in Shelbyville with Bro. Gordon Vaughn officiating.

Born May 8, 1958, Larry is the son of Marcell Stone and Sammie Gene Smith.  He was baptized at South Groves Baptist Church by Bro. Sims on April 5, 1971.  He lived most of his life in the Huxley Community of Shelby County.  Nicknamed “Jungle Jim”, Larry loved hunting and fishing.  He worked on oil rigs most of his life, during which time he was hurt and later began having health problems.  In 1995, he married his wife of 27 years, Connie Smith.  Larry loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Smith of Shelbyville; brother, Stephen Smith and wife Edith; sister, Rhonda Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; cousin, David Worsham; and special brother-in-law, Luke Clark.

Sylvia Lee Owens, 79, of Center, passed away in her home Friday, April 8, 2022, in Center.

Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2022, at White Rock Cemetery in Center.  Reception will be held after funeral at White Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

Born December 13, 1942, Sylvia is the daughter of Lola Jolly Owens and Odie Owens.  She enjoyed gardening and spending time with the grandbabies.  Sylvia was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and sang in the choir at White Rock Missionary Baptist Church.  She loved reading her Bible.

She is survived by her sons, Ricky Davis and wife Dana of Sedan, Kansas and Ronnie Davis and wife Tammy of Center; daughter, Tammy and husband Kevin Whitton of Center; grandchildren, David Davis, Kirby McSwain, Miranda Corey Young, Steven Davis and Samantha, Megan and Michael Adkison, Brent Davis and Kristine, Destiny and William Killey, and Grace Davis; great grandchildren, Clint and Chesney Davis, Karter and Kinley Adkison, Grady, Carla, and Layton Young, Ensley Davis, Shone and Sena Killey; sister, Shirley Poskey; and son-in-law, Mike McSwain; also a host of nieces and nephews.

Born September 15, 1948, in Shelby County, Mary is the daughter of Odell Fultz and Barnett R. Mobley. She was a member of McClelland Community Church in Shelby County.

She is survived by her son, Johnnie Hodge and wife Linda of San Augustine; daughters, Susan and husband Chuck Gaddy of Center, and Tammie and husband Ken Muckelroy of Center; grandchildren, Johnnie Hodge Jr. and wife Sarah, Shelby and husband Travis Garrett, Dusty Davis and wife Ashley, Dandi and husband David Shields, Madison and husband Austin Whitney, Tyler Muckelroy and wife Alexis, and Abbie Muckelroy; 11 great grandchildren; and sister, Sheila Aguilar of Tenaha.

Johnnie Lee Emerson

Johnnie Lee Emerson, 70, of Joaquin, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022, in Nacogdoches.

Born September 13, 1951, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Johnnie is the son of Lois C. Stephens and D.W. “Red” Emerson.  He served in the United States Army and later worked as a meat cutter at Wal-Mart.  Johnnie loved Louis L’Amour Books.  He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his daughter, Edith and husband Michael Mayes of Joaquin; son, Bradley Emerson of Converse, Louisiana; grandchildren, Mady Davis, Haley Emerson, Ashley Mayes, and Cody Mayes; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae Emerson; parents, Lois C. Stephens and D.W. “Red” Emerson; brother, Carl Wilton Emerson; sister, Johnnie M. Stephens Brown; and brother-in-law, Oscar J. “Sonny Boy” Brown.
