Ronny "Shot" Lynch

Ronny “Shot” Lynch, 64, of Center, Texas, passed away on January 11, 2018 in Center. He was born on October 19, 1953 in Center to Arthur Lynch and Marcelline Parker. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Oaklawn Memorial Park with Bro. Johnny Lewis officiating.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home.

Shot grew up in the Goober Hill community in south Shelby County. One day on the Center square, he happened to meet Penny Hutcherson and his life changed forever. That brief moment turned into 36 years full of memories and love. Shot treasured the time he spent with his family, friends, and neighbors. His grandkids were the lights of his life. He could spend countless hours just watching them rip, run, and play in the yard. He followed them wherever they went, and he especially liked watching Haleigh play softball. Those babies had his heart, and every second he was with them, priceless memories were made.

Shot was an avid outdoorsman. No one around loved to hog hunt and coon hunt as much as him. His passion for hunting earned his dogs the title of “best around.” People that knew him could tell stories for days about Shot and his dogs. The interesting part about his hunting adventures was that he did it riding the back of a mule instead of on a four-wheeler. Shot’s theory was that his mule could go places those four-wheelers couldn’t.  If you couldn’t find him at work or at home, you knew he was in the woods. This was his sanctuary, his place of peace. Some people travel the world and many of their friends and family would even invite Shot and Penny to go on those fun and exciting trips. Shot would encourage Penny to seize that opportunity, but as for him, he was content in nature. Shot saw the world in the woods. There was no need for bright lights and big city. He was surrounded by magnificence and beauty in the great outdoors right here in East Texas.

Shot was also known for his “junkin.’” He made a hobby of collecting and hauling junk. He could find a use for just about anything. Everyone who travels back and forth through the southern part of Shelby County will pass by Shot’s place. It was his little piece of paradise where he would keep all of his junkin’ findings. It’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t know Shot Lynch. He never met a stranger and would be happy to have a conversation with any who wanted to stop by just to talk.

Shot spent fifteen years working for Shelby County Precinct 2 and the last few years working for Precinct 3. His co-workers became more like family and he valued them all. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Shot loved his church and his church family very much. He was a kind, light-hearted, and genuine man who will be dearly missed by all.

Shot is survived by his beloved wife, Penny Lynch of Center; son, Nathan Lynch and wife, Beth of Joaquin; brother, Donny Lynch and wife, Lucille of Marshall; sisters, Diane Jackson and husband, Jerry of Nacogdoches and Sharon Johnson and husband, Tyson of Center; sisters-in-law, Jayne Crain of Center and Lizann Burke and Roy Blackshear of Center; grandchildren, Haleigh, Bryleigh, and Cutter Lynch all of Joaquin; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur C. Lynch; mother, Marcelline Parker Lynch Green; stepfather, James T. Greer; mother-in-law, Peggy Hutcherson; father-in-law, Hutch Hutcherson; brothers-in-law, Roy Crain and Mike Burke; and nephew, Cody Johnson.

Ford Brown was born September 19, 1917, on the Stratton Plantation near present day Clute, TX, to Perry Maxey Brown and Merle Stratton Brown. He was raised in the Freeport, TX (Velasco) area.  He attended Freeport High School, at which he was a member of their 1935 Championship Football Team.  He met the Love of his Life, Iva Nell Pate, after the 1932 hurricane, while pumping some fresh water for her. Just six years later, they were married on June, 28 1938.  Shortly after their first two children were born, Ford was called to serve in World War II as a U.S. Marine.  He valiantly and heroically served throughout the Pacific Region and was part of the Invasion of Okinawa, the bloodiest and last battle of the Pacific.  After returning from the war, his youngest child had been born. Ford held several jobs as a pipe fitter and went back to work for Dow Chemical until he retired in 1984.  Other accomplishments included serving as Mayor of Lake Barbara, TX, serving as City Councilman in Clute, TX and serving as a deacon for Emmanuel Baptist Church.  Ford spent his retirement years visiting with family, working in his garden, reading every Louis Lamour book, tearing up mower after mower, fishing or playing one of his favorite domino games.  Ford’s life was full of serving God and others and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
