Nina Hughes

 

Nina Hughes, 82, passed away on October 28, 2020 at home in Center, TX, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Hughes was born February 12, 1938, in Timpson TX to the late Robert and Mildred Zella Ramsey Billingsley.

 
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 5-7PM at Mangum Funeral Home in Center, Texas. Chapel Service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Mangum Funeral Home in Center, Texas with Bro. Tim Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Timpson, TX.


Nina retired from for the Shelby County Courthouse license department after years of serving the public, which she loved. After retiring she enjoyed riding the four-wheeler, fishing, hunting and berry picking with her grandchildren. She taught her older granddaughters to cook and can home grown vegetables and how to make homemade jelly. She also taught her daughter in laws to make her famous chicken and dressing.


Mrs. Hughes is survived by her children: Lowana Amos and Stanley of Timpson, Clifford Hughes and Joeleen of Mt. Enterprise, Curtis Hughes and Misty of Overton; Grandchildren: Shaun Milford and Cheryl of Center, Megan Adams and Joshua of Gary, Levi Hughes and girlfriend, Samantha, of Overton, Baylee Hughes of Overton, Anabelle Hughes of Overton, Kailynn Hughes of Overton, Jessica Holloway and Robbie of Mt. Enterprise, Joseph Cline and Christine of Nacogdoches, TX. Great Grandchildren: Karson, Kutter, Case and Courtlan Milford of Center, Makynze, Brooklyn, Dakota and Jaelyn Adams of Gary, Juliet James of Mt. Enterprise, Jagger Allen of Garrison, Jett Holloway of Mt. Enterprise, and Zoe and Acesa Cline of Nacogdoches. Numerous Nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.


Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Byron and Kenny Billingsley and her sister in law, Gwen Billingsley.

Roy Lee “Babe” Tindol, 79, of Center, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in Nacogdoches.

Ruth Santos Boyett, 82, of Center, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020, in Center.

Born December 2, 1937, Ruth is the daughter of the late Jessie Santos and Ellen Paddie Santos. She retired as a service desk clerk at Walmart.  Her hobbies included gardening and watching the hummingbirds.  She loved roses and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Ruth was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mansfield, Louisiana.

Vivian Jernigan, 97, of Center, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020, in Center.

A private family burial was held at Old Salem Cemetery. She was laid to rest beside her husband and brother.

 

Mrs. Jernigan was born November 3, 1922, in San Augustine County, to Jim Sharpton and Mattie Sharpton Gilchrist.  She went on to fulfill a career in teaching. Mrs. Jernigan was a member of White Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

Kathi Sue Townes, 62, of Timpson, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2020 in Timpson, Texas. She was born on July 10, 1958 in Houston, Texas, to the late Herman L. Stephens and Lillian Lidy (Swartz) Stephens. Graveside service will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Timpson, Texas, 75975, with Bro. Carroll Jones officiating. 

 

Visitation will begin 30 minutes prior to graveside service at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

 

Kathi moved to Timpson, Texas and attended Timpson High School where she graduated Class of 1976. She went to Stephen F. Austin State University and received a teaching degree.  She met the love of her life, Charles Townes, in a local grocery store and the two were married on December 5, 1981 at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church.  They spent over 35 years together before his passing in 2017.  Although Kathi had no children of her own, she had many that came through Timpson ISD through the years she spent teaching Kindergarten and Pre-k.  She retired from Timpson ISD after more than 20 years of service.  She was a very kind, compassionate, tender hearted individual. Those that were blessed to meet her will surely miss her.  She enjoyed reading, taking care of her cats, and trying out new restaurants. Kathi loved the Lord and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by her brother, Andy Stephens and wife, Jody; sister, Emily Jordan and husband, Bill; niece, Jackie Kolajack Hendricks and husband, Kyle; nephew, Joseph Kolajack and wife, Stephanie; 3 nieces; 5 nephews; 1 great niece; 6 great nephews; special lifelong friend, Frankie Mae Newcomer and husband, Darrell; and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.

Kathi is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Townes; parents, Herman and Lillian Stephens; and sisters, Linda Kolajack and Donna Stephens.

Born May 5, 1941, in St. Louis, MO, Mrs. Goatcher is the daughter of the late Fred Kipp and Beatrice Hawn Kipp.  She taught recreational therapy at Angelina College.  Her hobbies included arts, crafts, and fashion.  Mrs. Goatcher was a member of First Baptist Church in Haslam.


She is survived by her son, Grant Reuben Goatcher of Carthage; brother, Paul Kipp and wife Karen of St. Louis, MO; nephew, Jason Kipp of St. Louis, MO; and niece, Erin Kipp of St. Louis, MO; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.


She is preceded in death by her husband, Ruben L. Goatcher; parents, Fred Kipp and Beatrice Hawn Kipp; and sister, Linda Kipp.

Nina Tommie Christian (95) of Center, TX was born February 22, 1915 to Claude Pilgreen and Velma Baker Pilgreen. Tommie passed away October 8, 2020. Hers was a life filled with Gospel music and a mother’s untamed pride in the accomplishments of her family.

 

Visitation and Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 10th 2020 at Old Union Cemetery, Tenaha, TX. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m with Services immediately following at 4:00 p.m.

 

Mrs. Christian is survived by Sons, Charles (Laura) Rowe; Wayne (Lisa) Christian of Center, TX; Grandchildren, Scott (Jennifer) Rowe of Gulfport, MS, Taffanie (Thane) Erwin of San Antonio, TX, Liza (Mark) Firmin of Waco, TX, Lindsey (Lincoln) Thompson of Atlanta, TX, Lauren Christian of Austin, TX; and 8 Great Grandchildren.

Vanessa Rachelle Goings, 26, of Center, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020, in Center.  

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2020, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Darren Smith Pastoring.  Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

 

Born July 2, 1994, in Seattle, Washington, Vanessa Goings is the daughter of JR Irybarren and Stacy Leonard Wershing.  Her hobbies included photography, drawing, and creative cooking.  She loved creating new recipes.  Vanessa was charismatic with people.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Center.

 

She is survived by her son, Cooper Goings; parents, J.R. Iribarren and Stacy Wershing; sisters, Sabrina Edenshaw and Elizabeth Wershing; nieces and nephews, Derek Edenshaw, Addison Gilchrist, Blaine Smith, Joseph Gilchrist, Braxton Mikesh, Ethan Edenshaw, and Cayden Mikesh; aunts and uncles, Ralph and Kim Iribarren, James Iribarren, and Margret Iribarren; cousins, Ralphie and Gina Iribarren, Candy and Bill Gooseman, Sostenes Iribarren, and Chantel Iribarren; and brother-in-law, Brian Mikesh.

 

She is preceded in death by her dad, Todd Wershing; nephew, Conner Mikesh; grandparents, Fred Leonard and Candi Iribarren; and great grandmother, Berniece Wright.

Winnie Smith, 101, of Tenaha Texas was born January 25th 1919 in Joaquin, Tx to William and Arrie Walker. Winnie passed away October 6th 2020.

Winnie enjoyed making all types of treats for family and friends, she enjoyed sewing. She loved to travel and seeing new places, most of all Winnie loved spending time visiting with family and friends.

It is with great sadness to share the news that on October 3rd 2020 Alicia Gail Layton (Ready) passed away. Alicia was born November 25, 1952 in Houston Texas. 

 

Alicia battled Leukemia since 2017. She put a strong and brave fight until the end. Alicia was sweet and kind who loved her children and grandchildren above all else. She was her husband, Rusty's life and they were each other’s best friend. Alicia will surely be missed by everyone.


Alicia is preceded in death by her mother Syble Jernigan, Step-father Earl Jernigan, Father Henry Norman (Bully) Ready, Step-mom Jean Ready and sister Donna Ready. 

 

Alicia is survived by two sons Jarrod Munden and Joseph (April) Munden, sister, Ramona (Lex) Koch and brother Gary (Jenny) Ready. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Aaliyah Garza, Alanah Munden, Jarren Munden, Aubrey Munden, Avery Munden, Jace Munden, Michael Layton, Chance Layton, Cheyenne Layton, Farris Warr, Banner Warr, Connen Warr and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tommie Lee Bryce, 64, of Timpson, Texas, passed away September 28, 2020 in Timpson, Texas. He was born on November 26, 1955 in Center, Texas, to the late Tommie Roscoe and Christine (Smith) Bryce. Tommie was born and raised in Shelby County.  He attended Concord and Gary schools.  Tommie was a hard worker and roughnecked most of his life providing for his family.  He had one son, Tommie Lee Bryce Jr., whom he loved dearly.  Tommie was a kind, compassionate, individual who enjoyed time spent outdoors visiting with his friends and family.  He would not miss the opportunity to have a cold drink with his friends who walked many miles with him.  

He is survived by his son, Tommie Lee Bryce Jr. and wife Jennifer; mother, Christine Bryce; brother, David Lynn Bryce and wife Vickie; sisters, Linda Kovar and husband Milton, Patricia Dukes; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mae Bryce, Christina Bryce; and a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly.

 

Tommie is preceded in death by his father, Tommie Roscoe Bryce.
