Douglas Lane, 81, of Grapevine, Texas, formerly of Tenaha, Texas, passed away on April 28, 2019 in Grapevine. He was born on August 1, 1937 in Gary, Texas to Emmet and Yvonne Lane.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Tennessee Presbyterian Church in Timpson with Bro. Buddy Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Tennessee Cemetery.

 

A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Mangum Funeral Home.

Mark Stephen Bowley Sr., 56, of Timpson, Texas passed away Friday, April 26, 2019, in Timpson, Texas.  Born November 1, 1962, in Houston, Texas to Leroy Verl Bowley Sr. and Jeanette Arlene (Hicks) Bowley. Funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Taylor Funeral Home, with Bro. Jimmy Nix officiating.  Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.  

 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 6 – 8 PM at Taylor Funeral Home, 511 Ross Graves Dr., Timpson, Texas.

 

The family moved to Timpson, Texas in 1977 where he attended Timpson High School and me the love of his life, Kimberley Jo Fletcher.  The two were inseperable and married Januray 26, 1980, and recently celebrated 39 years of marriage.  They had three wonderful children and were blessed over the years with many grands.

 

Mark enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family.  He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend.   He enjoyed a good Cowboys game, deer hunting, and listening to his son and band perform. 

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberley Fletcher Bowley; parents, Leroy Verl Bowley Sr. and Jeanette Arlene (Hicks) Bowley; daughter, Amy Williford and husband Michael of Carthage, Texas; son, Mark “Stephen” Bowley Jr. and wife Erica of Conroe, Texas; son, Jeremy Bowley and wife Elizabeth of Timpson, Texas; daughter in love, Brittany Dupree and husband Jason; grandchildren, Austin Williford and wife Brooklyn, Bailey Williford, Ethan Askins, Logan Askins, Jake Williford, Jace Williford, Morgan Bowley, Mckenna Bowley, Collan Bowley, Landan Bowley, Brooklynn Bowley, Kyler Dupree and Laytan Bowley; brothers, Lee Bowley of Timpson, Texas, Joel Bowley and wife Tammy of Conroe, Texas; sister, Tammy Bowley of Timpson, Texas; Katrina Higginbotham of Timpson, Texas, Karina Willhoite and husband Robin of Timpson, Texas; mother in law, Mary Fletcher Gatliff and husband Don of Timpson, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Brother Travis entered Heaven’s pearly gates Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 95 years of age surrounded by his loving family. 


Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2019, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Gordon Vaughn and Bro. James Goodwyn officiating.  Interment will follow at Campti Cemetery in Center.


Brother Travis was born September 6, 1923, in the Campti Community of Shelby County, to Robert C. Hughes and Mary Keith Hughes.


He was married for 75 years to the love of his life Evelyn Bright Hughes. Together they were blessed with three loving daughters, Mary, Mavis, and Martha. He played the guitar and enjoyed singing at church. He served as pastor for over 45 years. His life ambition was to preach the gospel and lead souls to Christ. Before having a baptistery, he was blessed to baptize many in country ponds and the Sabine River. He never met a stranger and loved people from all walks of life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. In later years, his greatest enjoyments were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 


He was self-employed in farming and ranching, baling hay, dozer business, and a pulpwood yard. They also ran a country store in Campti for 10 years. He worked tirelessly in the community of Campti and even built an arena for roping that everyone enjoyed. He served as a Shelbyville school board member 17 years, and served on the Campti Cemetery Committee. 


He is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Evelyn Bright Hughes; daughters, Mary Culver and husband, Jim, of Center, Mavis Carter of Shelbyville, Martha Goodwyn and husband, James, of Center; grandchildren, Michael Warren and wife, Krista, Candace Carter, T.J. Goodwyn and wife, Blaine, Bradley Goodwyn and wife, Sherry; great grandchildren, Kyla Warren, Mason Warren, Judson Goodwyn, Madison Goodwyn, Joshua Goodwyn, Jeremiah Goodwyn.


Preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. Hughes and Mary Keith Hughes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Price and Vera Bright; son-in-law, Mac Carter.

James "Bill" Childs

 

 

James “Bill” Childs, 82, of Center, passed away Friday, April 26, 2019, in Livingston.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Powdrill Cemetery with Bro. Fred Childs officiating.


Mr. Childs was born November 23, 1936, in Center, to Larry Lewis Childs and Hazel Ellis Childs.  He retired from the United States Military, where he served in both the Marine Corps and Air Force.  Living at the river and fishing were what Mr. Childs enjoyed and he loved his grandchildren unconditionally.


He is survived by his sons, Jim Childs of Corrigan, John Childs of Texas; grandchildren, Melissa Long of Livingston, Jessica Cockrell of Apple Springs, Brittany Childs of North Carolina, Randy Childs of Lufkin, Brandy Graham of Lufkin; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Jean Bailey of Nacogdoches; brother, Bob Childs of Ohio; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jo Beth Hardy Wilburn

 

 

Jo Beth Hardy Wilburn, 85, of Shelbyville, formerly of League City, passed away Friday, April 26, 2019, in Center.


Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 28, 2019, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Todd Jenkins officiating.  Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.  Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at noon.


She was born January 14, 1934, in Shelbyville, to Samuel Joseph (Joe) Hardy and Cassie Vera Green Hardy.


She is survived by her grandson, Josh Ellis Wilburn of Zwolle; daughter-in-law, Nancy Wilburn of Zwolle; adopted family, Connie and Lonnie Belrose and family of Center; numerous cousins and other relatives.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Cassie Vera Green Hardy and Samuel Joseph Hardy; husband, Ellis Lamar Wilburn; son, Mark Ellis Wilburn.

Nelwyn Mae Ramsey

 

 

Nelwyn Mae Ramsey was born on September 25, 1933, to Kelly Ramsey and Emma Bowden Ramsey on her grandparent’s farm in the Old Center Community.  She grew up in Tenaha, Texas, graduating from Tenaha High School in 1952.  She attended business school in Shreveport and later moved to Houston to work as a secretary.  She returned to Tenaha to care for her father and worked as a telephone operator.


She married Billy Head on May 17, 1958, and enjoyed 19 years of marriage before he passed away suddenly in May of 1977.


They had one son, Bobby Head, born in 1961.  Mrs. Head worked as a retail manager and later as a healthcare professional.  She enjoyed painting, playing the piano, crafts, her family, gardening, and growing flowers.


She passed away on April 26, 2019, in Garrison.


She is survived by her son, Bobby Head of Gary, TX; daughter-in-law, Mary Head of Gary, TX; grandson, David Head of Gary, TX; granddaughter-in-law, Kelli Head of Gary, TX; great granddaughter, Raelynn Head of Gary, TX; granddaughter, Katherine Gradberg of Gary, TX; great granddaughter, Amy Gradberg of Gary, TX; great granddaughter, Abby Gradberg of Gary, TX; grandson-in-law, Jeremy Gradberg of Gary, TX.

Dianne Lynch Livingston was born in Center, Texas on September 16, 1950. She entered Heaven’s gates on April 21, 2019. 


Her great ambition in life was to be the best wife, and kind of mother she never had, and have the close family devotion that she longed for growing up.
She married the love of her life, Ricky, at 16 years of age, and together raised two sons, Wesley and Bryan. Dianne was long time dedicated member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church. A loving mother and homemaker, Dianne was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially for Sunday dinner. Dianne was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as grandma. 


Dianne is survived by her husband, Richard Livingston of Center; son, Bryan Livingston and wife, Amanda of Center; daughter-in-law, LaResa Livingston of Center; sister, Brenda Sue Wooley of Ft. Calvin Samuel Foy Sr., 64, of Center, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019, in Nacogdoches.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 22, 2019, at Foy Cemetery in Robert, LA with Bro. Jason Hebert officiating.


Mr. Foy was born August 23, 1955, in Independence, to Ernest Foy and Albertine Lavign Foy.  Mr. Foy enjoyed working with his cattle, working on his cars, building all types of things, and spending time with family and friends.  Mr. Foy was of the Pentecostal faith.

Dennis “Rooster” Shaeffer passed away on April 18, 2019 in Shelbyville,TX. 


Dennis was a United States Coast Guard veteran, serving as a Tactical Law Enforcement Officer. He proudly served his community and his country doing supply, disaster, and rescue operations during hurricanes Florence and Harvey with the Cajun Navy Relief, Texas Native team, and BearPaw TacMed. 


He had pride in his family and his community, serving to honor both during his service in the Coast Guard as well as during his time working urban disaster response. He had a great sense of duty toward those he helped, and made it his personal mission to help as many people as possible in their time of need, no matter the cause, while serving with honor and integrity.
He was a proud family man whose family was always on his mind as he was helping others. His heart was always with his beautiful wife and children as he served. 


He was also a highly acclaimed bass player with John Cessac and the Texas Outlaws, and played because of his love of music. 


Dennis was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Hannah Shaeffer and Nestor and Maria Labrada, his uncle Fernando Labrada and his beloved dog Dallas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linsey, his two children, Jacob and Landry, his father Dennis and mother Lucy, his brother Daniel and wife Geri, his in-laws, Peggy and Jasen Watlington and brother-in-law Gage Watlington, his dogs Moosie and Buddy, his best friends and band mates, John and Kaleb and many aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends as well as his friends he worked with in Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard Tactical Law Enforcement, as well as disaster relief and activism.

Kenneth Johnson, Sr.

 

 

Kenneth Johnson, Sr., 75, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on April 11, 2019 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on August 27, 1943 to William A. Johnson and Leatris E. Hicks Johnson. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Kenneth grew up in Port Lavaca, Texas and graduated from Calhoun High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he valiantly served his country in the Vietnam War. Kenneth thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of his time hunting and shooting guns. 


He is survived by his son, Kenneth H. Johnson, Jr.; daughter, Tiffany M. Johnson; sister, Sandra Patis; and grandchildren, Jared Mika and Mackenzie Mika.


He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Leatris Johnson.

Martin “Marty” Craig Tipton, 59, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on April 14, 2019 in Timpson, Texas. He was born on February 20, 1960 in Houston, Texas to Harvey Tipton and Beth Bush Tipton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Timpson with Bro. Dee Daniel officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Cemetery.

Marty grew up in Timpson where he spent the most precious and treasured moments of his life with his family. His most trusted canine companion that was always by his side was his dog, “Coco.” Marty had a passion for music and was a talented pianist. He also had in interest in old cars and in his spare time enjoyed fishing. He was an excellent cook and loved any time spent in the kitchen. One of his most admirable qualities was his heart for others. Marty always reached out to lend a helping hand to the less fortunate. 


Marty is survived by his son, Scott Tipton and wife, Gena; daughter, April Cook; parents, Harvey “Tip” and Beth Tipton; brothers, Robert S. Tipton and wife, Donna L. and Dondi D. Viola was born to Tressie Bell (Cummings) and Louis Higginbotham on June 27, 1930, in San Augustine, and passed from this life on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, in Lufkin.  She was a graduate of San Augustine High School. She married the love of her life, Thois J. Gammage in November of 1947, having celebrated 58 years of marriage until his death in February of 2006.  She was a faithful and longtime member of the White Rock Missionary Baptist Church in San Augustine.

She enjoyed working out in her garden or being out in God's country on her tractor, which she recently retired at the age of 85. In the past few years, she enjoyed weekly trips to her beloved church where she and a few of her dear friends would crochet baby bonnets and winter caps, all of which were donated to children at Texas Children's Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and the Fort Bend County Women's Shelter in Rosenberg, TX.

 

Those to who she leaves to cherish her memory include her beloved daughter, Deborah Frawley of San Augustine, her grandchildren, Jason Terranova of San Augustine, Brandi Terranova and husband, Wayne King of Richmond; great-grandchild, Chelsea Terranova of Austin; grand-son-in-law,  John Dyche of Richmond, and her little sweetheart, Christian "Chris" Sauceda of Richmond.

Roy was born to Norma and Bentley Murray on November 29, 1942, in Palacios, Texas, and passed from this life Sunday evening, April 7, 2019, in San Augustine.  He served in the United States Army and was retired after 32 years from Santa Fe Railroad as a truck driver/trackman.  He was a member of the San Augustine Redland Masonic Lodge #3 where he served as past master.  Roy was well known for making homemade sausage and loved hunting and fishing being an avid outdoorsman, and above all, he loved spending time with his family and for 40 plus years served as a Deacon for the Magnolia Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

Milton was born to the late Leola (Lemons) Baldree and William Lee Baldree on February 14, 1928, in Sabine County, Texas, and passed from this life on Thursday, April 11, 2019, in San Augustine.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He married the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, the late Betty (Lacy) Baldree who passed from this life on April 2, 2015.. He was a longtime barber serving the community some 65 years.  Along with the Baldree family, they operated the Baldree nursing home in San Augustine for some 25 years, along with Baldree Grocery Store in San Augustine for many years, he, along with his family,  was known for their good customer service, he also owned Western Auto in Silsbee for a number of years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and taught as a Sunday School Teacher for 60 years, and was a member of the Silsbee First Pentecostal Church in Silsbee.

She was born July 25, 1935, in Houston, Texas, to parents Samuel Luther Boone and Vera Mae Martin Boone. Virgie was a retired beautician and was a longtime resident of the Houston area. In recent years she had relocated to the Broaddus, Texas, area and was a member of Long Pines Baptist Church.

 

Her survivors include a son, Jody Fearrington of Splendora, Texas; and a brother, William Boone and wife Frances of Broaddus, Texas.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband. James Fearrington; a son, Charles Fearrington and Johnny Brown; sisters, Ann Bass, Shirley Mae Boone, and Violet Boone; and brothers, Jimmy Harold Boone and Alcus Boone.

Audrey Faye (Furra) Taylor was born May 21, 1930 in Nacogdoches County Texas to Grady and Ada (Byrd) Furra. She was married to the love of her life John Byron Taylor on April 2, 1949. Audrey is survived by a son John Taylor Jr and wife Mary of Port Neches, a daughter Belinda Coulter and husband Lafher of San Augustine, a grandson Henry Coulter and wife Cynthia of The Woodlands, a great grand-daughter Madison Coulter of The Woodlands, Special Friend Carrie Washington, step-grandson Jason Beck, numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Audrey worked at Texaco in Port Arthur, Texas for several years and then was a housewife. She was a member of the Eastern Star for 64 years, a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church and before that served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, as an active member of the PTA serving as President for several years and later volunteered at San Augustine Elementary School for 5 years. Audrey loved her Lord and Savior, family, friends, birdwatching, bowling, sewing and shopping. Audrey passed away at Twin Lakes Nursing Home in San Augustine, Texas on April 13, 2019.

Dr. Tatum was a native of Center, Texas and a graduate of C.H. Daniels High School.  He received his B.A. and M. Ed. Degree for Prairie View A&M University; his M.A.T and M.S degrees for Indiana University; and his Ph.D. Michigan State University.    Funeral service will be Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Metropolitan Christiana Methodist Church (8955 South Fwy Houston, Texas 77051) at 12:00 noon.   Rev. Fred Fermon McDaniel, 83, of Tenaha, Texas passed away on April 5, 2019 in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on August 8, 1935 in the Bobo Community of Shelby County to Fred Jackson McDaniel and Dovie D. Keith McDaniel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Andy Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery. 


A visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Mangum Funeral Home. 
Fred grew up in Timpson where he attended Timpson ISD before enlisting in the United States Army. As a teen, Fred met Mary Tindol and the two became friends enjoying one another’s company. Friendship grew into love and after Fred returned home from the military, he married Mary on August 13, 1960. Fred and Mary had a beautiful and blessed marriage for 58 years. Fred was a carpenter by trade and loved doing woodwork. He was very crafty and creative. He also loved spending time in the outdoors soaking in God’s creations while fishing and gardening. Fred was a man of many talents, two of which were painting and playing guitar. More than any activity, job or hobby, Fred treasured his moments surround by his grandchildren. They were his true pride and joy. No matter what Fred was doing, you could guarantee he would be giving 110% of himself. He was a selfless and caring individual who had a love for the Lord, his family and the numerous people he met throughout his life.

Delbert Wheeler

 

 

 

Delbert Wheeler, 86, of Houston, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 5, 2019, in Houston.
Funeral service will be Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Minister Norris Dudley officiating.  Interment will follow at Powdrill Cemetery in Shelby County.  Visitation will be held prior to service, beginning at noon.


Mr. Wheeler was born September 27, 1932, in the Arcadia Community of Shelby County to John Edwin Wheeler and Cletis Goolsby Wheeler.  “Cotton”, as he was known, grew up a farmer’s son, planting and growing just about anything.  He had a great love for John Deere tractors.  Later, he joined the United States Air Force and worked as an aircraft mechanic.  This experience led him to a 35 year career with CRC Corporation.  He began there as a mechanic, then acquired his corporate pilot license, and went on to fly over 10,000 hours for the company. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors.  Given everything he was able to accomplish, his most prized accomplishment was his family.  Mr. Wheeler loved his family more than anything.


He is survived by his children, David Wheeler and wife Sheila of Willis, Debra Smith and husband Mark of Hockley; grandchildren, John Wheeler of Willis, Cameron Smith of Hockley, Regina Wheeler of Willis, Melissa Reed of Willis; great grandchildren, Olivia, D.J., Elaina, Jensen, Raegan, Madelyn, Rylan; sister, Fonda Burgay; nieces, Phyliss Griffin, Sharon Burgay; a host of other family and friends.


Preceded in death by the love of his life, Donna Wheeler; parents, John Edwin Wheeler and Cletis Goolsby Wheeler.

Maxie L. Coody, 68, of Joaquin, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019, in Houston.

Mr. Coody was born April 4, 1950, in Saline, Louisiana, to James Coody and Maudie Lucky.  He retired from the United States Army after serving three tours in Vietnam and later retired from KLLM Trucking.  He loved guns, hunting, and animals.  Mr. Coody was a member of VFW Post 8904 in Center and First Baptist Church of Haslam.

David Lamar Mooney, 77, of Live Oak, Texas, passed away on April 1, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on August 26, 1941 in Center, Texas to Lawrence H. “Bob” Mooney and Lonita Carnahan Mooney. A graveside service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 5, 2019 at Fairview Cemetery in Center, Texas with Linda Searcy officiating. 


David received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin before pursuing a career as a teacher. He also had a passion for the arts which carried him to another career in acting. His filmography is extensive from the 1970’s through the present. Some of his most notable films are The Baby, from 1973, Chaplain, from 1992, and most recently, My All-American, from 2015, as well as many television commercials.  David’s acting career allowed him the opportunity to become a member of the Screen Actors Guild. He continued working as a teacher as well for twenty years and even after retirement, he remained a substitute to stay connected to the students that he loved so much. David was a genuine, kind-hearted individual who never met a stranger. Every person he encountered during his life’s journey can speak of the positive memories David left with them. 


David is survived by his sister, Giovanna Mooney Searcy and brother-in-law, James L. Searcy, Sr.; nephew, James L. Searcy, Jr.; niece, Linda Searcy; great-nephews, Jason L. Searcy and Nathan M. Searcy; cousin, Susan Mooney Chrane and husband, Calvin; and a host of other family and friends. 


He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence H. “Bob” Mooney and Lonita Carnahan Mooney and brother, Lawrence Henry Mooney, Jr.

James “Jimmy” Ross Vickers, 75, of Milam, Texas passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 at Summer Meadows Nursing Home in Longview, Texas.

 

Jimmy was born July 19, 1943 in Center, Texas to Ross Evans Vickers and Paunee Lord Vickers. He was a graduate of Hemphill High School and later earned his Masters Degree at Stephen F. Austin State University. He also served his country as a member of the Army National Guard. He was a lifelong resident of Sabine County.

 

Jimmy was an educator for the Joaquin Independent School District for many years and was a member of many organizations including the Frank Sexton Masonic Lodge in Milam; the Sons of the Republic of Texas; and held a Doctorate of Domino Science. He was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his sons, Mike Vickers of Shelbyville, Texas, Vance Vickers and wife, Johanna, of Sexton, Texas, Rodolfo Martinez of Slidell, Louisiana, and Edgar Martinez of Martinsville, Texas; daughter, Debbie Terry and husband, Cooper, of Longview, Texas; brother, Vance Vickers and wife, Juanice, of The Woodlands, Texas; sisters, Betsy Cox and husband, George, of Milam, Texas and Susie Clark and husband, Jimmy, also of Milam; and eleven grandchildren, Collin, Connor, Carsen, Logan, Caleb, Laney, Cooper, Carter, Lawson, Tristan, and Tatom.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Vickers, and his daughter-in-law, Crystal Vickers.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.

 

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2019 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Wheeler officiating and Ross Vickers delivering the eulogy.

Burial will follow services in Vickers Cemetery located in Milam, Texas.
