Lila was an exceptional woman who went above and beyond for her family. She made sure that all needs were met and that her home was filled with warmth and love for all who entered. Lila absolutely loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She would never pass up the chance to keep her grandbabies. Those were the moments she looked forward to most! She knew her way around the kitchen better than any chef and would make some of the most delicious meals for friends and family. She also learned to can and could jelly almost anything!  When she wasn’t tending to house and entertaining guests, Lila enjoyed quilting. She could sit for hours sewing in every detail on those quilts. In each piece of material is a piece of Lila’s heart. On sunny days, Lila also liked to spend time outdoors gardening. She always had such a kind and gentle demeanor unless you got her in a game of Canasta. Lila loved playing Canasta and took it very seriously. Her life spoke volumes of the woman she was and Lila’s heart of gold and compassionate nature will be dearly missed by those she loved.

Lila is survived by her children, Ruth Ann and Sam Satchfield, Lyndon and Janet Nichols, Phillis and Michael Kitten and Keith Nichols; grandchildren, Laurie and Lee Gilchrist, Michelle and Stephen Satchfield, Christine and Joe Gautreaux, Katie Nichols, Shannon and Tony Flores and Jason and Linda Kitten; great-grandchildren,  Joshua Gilchrist, Justin and Brittany Gilchrist, Meghan, Matthew, Reese and Kelly Satchfield, Alexandria and Samantha Gautreaux, Lila Flores and Joe, Ethan, and Daniel Kitten; great-great grandchildren, Addison and Joe Gilchrist; sisters-in-law, Joyce Rogers and Wanda Scott; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

James Hairgrove

james Edward Hairgrove 92, left this world on March 13, 2018 in Houston, TX.  He was born on February 21, 1926 on the family farm in the Buena Vista Community near Timpson, TX, to Wilburn N. and Pearl Burns Hairgrove.  He was the oldest of seven children and attended his first few years of school in Tenaha, TX, moving to the Buena Vista School for 3rd through 8th grades and graduating from Timpson High School in 1943. After a one-year deferment for being the oldest son on a working farm, James Edward served in the US Army in WWII from January 1945 until November 1946.  He trained to invade Japan by land, leaving port the same day the first atomic bomb was dropped.  He became part of the occupation forces on Okinawa, where he guarded Japanese prisoners who he said were just as relieved the war was over as he was.
Upon returning home, James Edward attended classes at Stephen F. Austin State University, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston where he majored in Electrical Engineering while working for Houston Lighting & Power, where he remained for 15 years.

After being introduced by friends from their respective jobs, Jim (as he was known in Houston) and Grace Rehrig (originally of Easton, PA) were married on March 1, 1957 in Houston and were blessed with two children, Kay Ann (1958) and Ronald James (1961). They resided in southeast Houston until moving to Pearland in the early 1970’s to a new home that Jim designed, built and lived in until moving to assisted living in 2016.

Jim became a Master Electrician and Owner of Certified Electric, an electrical contracting company that specialized in residential and small commercial projects.  He and Grace ran the company together for over twenty years before selling the business.  In retirement, Jim began remodeling his weekend home at Lake Murvaul, where the family has spent many happy times together.  His other hobbies included photography and woodworking.
He is survived by his daughter Kay Hairgrove Krenek and husband Wilfred of Houston, TX, daughter-in-law Susan Flournoy Hairgrove and grandson James Colton Hairgrove of Tenaha, TX, sisters Wilma Culp of Lampasas, TX and Frances McIntyre of Timpson, TX, brothers Franklin Hairgrove and Bill Hairgrove, both of Timpson, TX as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorice Marjorie McKinley Anderson

Dorice Marjorie McKinley Anderson, 90, of Tenaha, Texas, received her blessed release  on March 8, 2018, in Mt. Enterprise. She was born on August 20, 1927 in Houston, Texas, to George Elliot McKinley and Annalee Schultze McKinley. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Mangum Funeral Home with visitation prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.  Interment will follow at Johnson Cemetery in the Fellowship Community in Joaquin.

Dorice grew up in Houston and was a member of The Disciples of Christ Church, where her mother was the organist and her father sang routinely as a soloist. She graduated from high school and then attended The University of Houston Business College. She met Charles Henry Anderson when he was visiting friends living in her neighborhood, and they married a year later on January 22, 1949, a union that would span sixty years. Shortly after their marriage, Dorice worked as an executive secretary for Bilbo Redding Drilling Company in Houston until moving to Alvin, Texas, in 1963. She later worked at Alvin Elementary School as an administrative assistant to the principal.  She retired in 1990 and moved with Charles to their farm in East Texas near Flat Fork Creek. Widowed in 2009, Dorice continued to live at the farm, caring for her land and animals.

Dorice was a woman of many talents and abilities. She loved the challenge of learning, teaching herself to needlepoint and to crochet, to grow roses, herbs and fruit trees, and invent delicious recipes.  She read the “Houston Post” daily and kept up with the latest styles in fashion. Meanwhile, her daily attire usually included rubber boots: she fed songbirds, hummingbirds, cats and dogs.

She relished the outdoors. An expert camper, she guided her Girl Scout troops on primitive camping excursions. She loved being a scout leader.  While serving as president of the South Texas Girl Scout Council, Dorice was instrumental in the acquiring the Scouts’ very first camp, located along the Colorado River. She also created an after school program where scouts helped at-risk children do their homework.  Later, she would continue volunteering with children through teaching Sunday School.

Dorice, as wife, mother, and homemaker, was a gracious hostess who entertained often, preparing all the party food by hand--from slow-simmered Cajun dishes to decadent confections. Dorice doted on her children and grandchildren, baking their favorite treats, finding fun activities for their amusement, and always making them feel especially loved.

Dorice is survived by her daughter, Denise Anderson Harclerode and husband, Scott Harclerode, of Mount Enterprise, Texas,  her son, John Ellis Anderson of Pounchatoula, Louisiana; granddaughter Cara Leigh Harclerode Case and husband, Christopher Scott Case of Longview, Texas; granddaughter Katherine O’Brien Harclerode of Highland Park, Texas; and granddaughter Stephanie Lee Anderson of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends, including Mary Kay Longnecker and Betty Jo Longnecker Jacobs of Granbury, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Henry Anderson; her parents, George and Annalee McKinley; and brothers, George Elliot McKinley, Jr. and William Charles McKinley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Shelby County Outreach Ministries Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1029, Center, Texas, 75935.

Louis Troy Risinger

Louis Troy Risinger, 70, of Shelbyville, Texas, passed away on March 6, 2018 in Shelbyville. He was born on April 6, 1947 in Center, Texas to Carvie Cora Risinger Robinson. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Windham, Bro. Don Windham and Rev. Jacob Casey officiating. Interment will follow at West Hamilton Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home.

Troy grew up in the Dunnigan Community and attended Shelbyville ISD. He knew Edith Wilburn his entire life, but he had never worked up the courage to ask her out. One day, Troy and a friend of his saw Edith and her friend, Gracie in the middle of the road in their bathing suits. At that moment, Troy took a chance. They went on a double date and the rest is history. The two dated from 1967 until 1970 when they joined hands in marriage on March 20th and stood by one another’s side until Troy’s passing.

For 21 years, Troy worked as a carpenter in Vidor before retiring. He was a master at his trade and enjoyed his career over the years. Troy was at peace in the outdoors. Sometimes he would just sit outside and soak in the sunset each evening adoring God’s masterpiece. He also loved to fish and hunt with his family. You might find them on the bridge at Sleepy’s or hunting wolves and foxes. No matter where they were, the time together was treasured. Troy’s daughters learned a lot about life and about the outdoors shadowing him. He showed them how to fox hunt, how to truck camp and even all the tricks involved in a game of 42. His love for the Lord was the most important lesson he tried to instill in his children and grandchildren.   Raising their voices together in praise was a common occurrence. They loved to sing and play guitar at church, family gatherings and revivals. He also loved singing with OC There were times when Troy would sit back and listen to his daughters. In those moments, he found true contentment hearing them use their vocal talents for God’s glory. Pawpaw, as his beloved grandchildren called him, had a special place in his heart for the grandbabies. They were his pride and joy and some of the most beautiful memories of love and laughter were made when they were all together.

He was an easy-going man that would sit back and watch the RFD channel and the Weather Channel somedays and then other days, you might catch him watching old Westerns. There probably wasn’t one that he didn’t see. Troy also loved a good seafood buffet. He really enjoyed it when everyone in the family would get together to eat. Often the highlight of Troy’s day would be his nightly phone call with his cousin Betty Nell. He looked forward to their conversations each night and they would talk for hours. Troy was a light in this world to everyone who knew him. He had a nickname for everyone, but you knew that meant he loved you. So many wonderful memories were made over the years with Troy and will be treasured in the years to come.

He was a member of Pine Forest Masonic Lodge #1420 since 1982. He was also a member of the Easter Star Vidor Lodge #914 and Sabine Carpenters Local of Beaumont.

Troy is survived by his wife, Edith Risinger of Shelbyville; daughters, Jennifer Stroud and husband, Stephen of Shelbyville, Tammy Casey and husband, Jacob of Huntington, Jackie Chauvin and husband, Armand of Nederland, and Janet McGowan and husband, Russell of Kountze; grandchildren, Xavier Pierce and wife, Sara of Porter, OC Stroud and Wife, Courtney of Joaquin, Britni Swearingen and husband, Kyle of Kountze, Reece Stroud of Shelbyville and girlfriend, Sheridan Sharp of Henderson,  Jon McGowan and Emilie McGowan of Kountze; great-grandchild, LilyAnn Stroud of Joaquin; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. Troy is also survived by Clinton Risinger who was like a son to him and by his best friends, “Brother” Henry Norris, Cotton Wilburn and Robert Risinger.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Carvie Robinson and grandparents, Jim and Cora Risinger.

Pallbearers will be Xavier Pierce, OC Stroud, Reece Stroud, Jon McGowan, Kyle Swearingen, Henry Norris and Clinton Risinger.

Honorary pallbearers are Cotton Wilburn, Robert Risinger, and all of his Mason Brothers.
