Ford Brown was born September 19, 1917, on the Stratton Plantation near present day Clute, TX, to Perry Maxey Brown and Merle Stratton Brown. He was raised in the Freeport, TX (Velasco) area.  He attended Freeport High School, at which he was a member of their 1935 Championship Football Team.  He met the Love of his Life, Iva Nell Pate, after the 1932 hurricane, while pumping some fresh water for her. Just six years later, they were married on June, 28 1938.  Shortly after their first two children were born, Ford was called to serve in World War II as a U.S. Marine.  He valiantly and heroically served throughout the Pacific Region and was part of the Invasion of Okinawa, the bloodiest and last battle of the Pacific.  After returning from the war, his youngest child had been born. Ford held several jobs as a pipe fitter and went back to work for Dow Chemical until he retired in 1984.  Other accomplishments included serving as Mayor of Lake Barbara, TX, serving as City Councilman in Clute, TX and serving as a deacon for Emmanuel Baptist Church.  Ford spent his retirement years visiting with family, working in his garden, reading every Louis Lamour book, tearing up mower after mower, fishing or playing one of his favorite domino games.  Ford’s life was full of serving God and others and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
