Boil Water Notice for N.E.W. Water System

Boil Water Notice for N.E.W. Water System

Effective November 16, 2023 Until further notice

Due to a major break in the line, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required the N.E.W. Water Supply Corporation PWS # 2030034 to notify all customers on FM 711, CR 202, CR 203, CR 205, CR 223, Harmony, Kellyville, Fountain Town and Woodland Acres Communities to boil their water prior to consumption (eg., washing hands/ face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received the notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact N.E.W. Water Supply Corporation at 220 W. Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas, 75972, or call 936-288-0489 or Charles Sharp at 936-201-5001.

TRI-COUNTY HARVEST FOR HOMES

TRI-COUNTY HARVEST FOR HOMES WILL HAVE A PRODUCE DROP ON WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 8,2023 AT 9 AM IN THE IVAN SMITH'S PARKING LOT.

Press Release

Sheriff Kevin W. Windham reports the arrest of Deneisa Permenter, 50, of Center and Mark Stone, 50, of Center. On Friday, November 3, 2023, investigators with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant on County Road 2010 at Permenter’s residence after a narcotics investigation. The search yielded 28 grams of methamphetamines and a firearm. Permenter was arrested and booked into the Shelby County jail on bonds totaling $135,000 for charges including: Warrant: Manufacturing/Delivery Controlled Substance (F-1), POCS (F-2), Unlawful Carrying a Weapon (M-A). Stone was arrested and booked in to the Shelby County jail on bonds totaling: $60,000 for charges including POCS (F-2) and Unlawful Carrying a Weapon (M-A).

Statement from Sheriff Kevin W. Windham

Let me start off by saying how thankful I am for the residents of Shelby County. Many of you I have known for my entire life, and others of you I have grown to know over the years. I am very thankful for the relationships I have gained during my time in law enforcement and as your Sheriff.

In August 2023, I underwent a double lung transplant. My progress has been steady and I am continuing to heal. This was a life-changing experience for not only me, but for my family as well. I am eternally grateful for my donor and their gift that saved my life.

At this time, my medical team does not feel it will be in my best interest to seek re-election as your Sheriff. The first year after transplant is considered critical, and I am in full understanding that I have to take care of myself. While this was not easy to hear, or accept, I trust their expertise, and know that God has a plan for the rest of my life. I put my full trust in Him, knowing that he will continue to see me through this journey.

It is my plan to be back in the office after the New Year. I still have one year to serve our as your Sheriff, and I will continue to fulfill this role to the best of my abilities. It has been a true honor to serve the citizens of Shelby County.

Please continue to remember my family and myself in your prayers during this time.

We appreciate every single one of you. Sheriff Kevin W. Windham

QUILTS OF VALOR: Honoring Shelby County Military Veterans Nomination Process

"What does a Quilt of Valor represent? Are you interested in witnessing a deserving veteran being honored with a Quilt of Valor? If so, you might be curious about the process of nominating a veteran for this unique and once-in-a-lifetime recognition.

" Quilts of Valor (QOV) is a nationwide endeavor that unites individuals in the creation of handmade quilts specifically crafted for our brave veterans and active-duty military personnel. These quilts serve as sincere expressions of gratitude and affection, representing the profound respect we hold for those who have altruistically served our nation.

In collaboration with Quilts of Valor Under Our Wings, Texas 4-H has joined forces to offer Quilts of Valor. Receiving a Quilt of Valor is a significant and patriotic tribute for veterans and active-duty service members. The Quilts of Valor Foundation, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to enveloping service members and veterans with comforting and therapeutic quilts. Here are the steps involved in receiving a Quilt of Valor:

• Nomination: Typically, a service member or veteran is nominated to receive a Quilt of Valor. Nominations can be made by family members, friends, fellow service members, or even self-nominations.

• Verification: The nominated individual's military service is verified to ensure they meet the criteria set by the Quilts of Valor Foundation, which generally includes having served in the U.S. military.

• Selection: Once the nomination is verified, the individual is selected to receive a Quilt of Valor. This can be done at the discretion of the local Quilts of Valor chapter or by the national organization.

• Presentation: The most significant part of the process is the Quilt of Valor presentation. This is a special and often emotional ceremony. The presentation can take place at a formal event, during a military reunion, at a local quilt show, or even in a more personal setting. During the presentation, the recipient is wrapped in the quilt. It is a moment of recognition and appreciation for the individual's service and sacrifice.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in receiving a Quilt of Valor or would like to nominate a deserving individual, we recommend getting in touch with Shelby County 4-H for guidance on the specific process and requirements within Shelby County. Please keep in mind that procedures and requirements may vary, so it's crucial to verify the latest information with the relevant organization.

Locally, we've teamed up with VFW Post 8904 to receive nominations for recipients in our county and to provide support for the quilt presentation ceremony. If you're interested in nominating a deserving veteran, please reach out to Larry Hume at chiefhume95@gmail.com, and he can send you the nomination form.

If any business or civic organization would like to assist with this project by sponsoring a quilt, please contact the Shelby County Extension Office, Feleshia Thompson, CEA-FCH at 936-598- 7744 or by email at Feleshia.thompson@ag.tamu.edu.
