Timpson Police Make Arrest After Citizen's Tip

A citizen’s tip has lead Timpson Police to the arrest of a Panola County man and a Shelby County woman.

Chief Kent Graham says the individuals were at an abandoned house on Hwy. 59 south of Timpson around 7:15 Tuesday evening when officers Michael Williams and Thomas Jernigan drove up on 39-year old Billy Givins of Beckville removing boxes of items from the home.

Officers approached the suspect and found him in possession of a small amount of meth. Chief Graham said officers had cuffed Givins, and while they were speaking with the female, 32-year old Misty Hensarling of Joaquin, Givins bent down, picked up the bag of meth with his mouth, and took off running. After a short pursuit, he was taken back into custody.

Chief Graham said a search also turned up a .32 hand gun in the suspect’s possession. Billy Givins was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tampering with Evidence and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Hensarling was book on a warrant for Violation of Probation, original charge: Theft by Check.

The property owner did not wish to file any charges.
