CISD board meets tonight, to discuss middle school improvements

The Center ISD Board of Trustees will have a regular meeting at 6 tonight, and among the agenda items for discussion and will be physical improvements to Center Middle School.

Superintendent Dr. James Hockenberry tells us that the school is aging and needs physical attention. He said for the most part some interior and exterior painting, replacement of wood facings, HVAC improvements, if necessary and affordable are the primary needs.

Also, the trustees will consider delegating contractual authority to Dr. Hockenberry. Per policy, the school board approves all employee contracts. He said with this time of year the so-called “hiring season”, the best candidates for employment are in high demand, and the window to employ the best candidates is small. By delegating authority to him until Sept. 1, it allows for the district to enter into contracts sooner rather than waiting for the next board meeting.

Also on tonight’s agenda will discussion on conducting a surplus sale this summer. Dr. Hockenberry said items will include computers, equipment and furniture that have exceeded their useful life.
