Long-time Tenaha City Secretary Fired by Mayor, Cites Non-Support

Center Broadcasting has been able to confirm that long-time City of Tenaha secretary Doyce Bailey was terminated from her position Monday morning by Mayor Orinthia Johnson for reportedly no supporting him in the recent election.

CBC made contact with Mayor Johnson yesterday, and asked him if Ms. Bailey had indeed been let go, he would not confirm, saying he had no comment. Ms. Bailey on the other hand responded by saying she was called into Mayor Johnson’s office and fired, saying the mayor based his decision on her not supporting him during the last election. He won re-election last Saturday.

Ms. Bailey has been Tenaha city secretary for 32 years, and said after her dismissal Monday she was escorted out of city hall by City Marshall Jimmy Wagstaff.

There will be a special meeting of the Tenaha City Council at 5:15 Thursday, with the only item on the agenda listed as an executive session concerning personnel.

Ms. Bailey says she feels confident the council will re-instate her to the position as city secretary. She had no comment as to whether she would pursue any legal option.
