Timpson, Tenaha mayors re-elected, changes in store for some ISD boards

The Cities of Timpson and Tenaha voted to retain their current mayors as votes were cast Saturday in city and school elections.

 

Debra Smith is headed to a third-term in Timpson with a 127-64 win over Councilman George Grace.

 

Meanwhile, Tenaha Mayor Orinthia Johnson won re-election to a second term with a 128-109 decision over challenger Claudine Wilson Howard. For the one-year unexpired council term in the City of Tenaha, Michael Baker unseated incumbent Mark Hickson, 130-97; and for the two, two-year terms, incumbent Durand Steadman was re-elected with 132 votes, and Tommy Rinkle will also be going on the council with 100 votes.

 

School trustee elections saw voters in the Shelbyville ISD voice a change as both incumbents Tiffanne Klein and Faye Dale Allen were defeated. Mark Bohannon led the ticket with 235 votes and Tim Bradshaw also won election with 156 votes. Klein had 87 and Allen with 76.

 

The Tenaha ISD board will also have two new members as Michael Ogden and Vickie Jernigan both pulled in 121 votes, ahead of incumbent Tracy Collins with 119.

 

The Joaquin ISD will have three new members as Pam Hearnsberger had 305 votes, Jimmy Hamilton with 281 and Chrisco Bragg with 247 votes. Other voting had Thomas Harvey with 235 and Rodney Harper 106.

 

Timpson ISD voters decided on retaining two current board members Stephen Burgay with 163 votes and Joyce Wolfe with 113. Jim Radar finished with 109 votes.

 

The Garrison school board elected three, with Olan Woodard, Jr. coming away with 117 votes, Billy Cooper 115 and Perry Honea with 109.

 

Nacogdoches ISD voters also said NO to the proposed $58 million bond issue, defeating the issue, 1,229 to 940.
