Jury Selection Begins Monday for Bobbie Grubbs' Capital Murder Trial

Jury selection begins Monday in Center for Capital Murder defendant Bobbie Grubbs, who's charged in the April 2012 shooting death of Martha Acevedo-Chan, and the shooting assault of Quinton Watts and Marilyn Retamar at the Joaquin Country Inn.

Grubbs and his wife, Deedra Grubbs have both entered pleas of not guilty to all charges. Judge Charles Mitchell of the 273rd District Court will preside over proceedings, as evidence is expected to be presented starting Tuesday.

Shelby County District Attorney Kenneth Florence will be assisted by deputy assistant DAs Ralph Guerrero and Wesley Mau, who were provided by Attorney General Greg Abbott.

Bobbie Grubbs will be represented by court-appointed attorney John R. Smith.

Deedra Grubbs' trial is set to start May 27, as both face up to life in prison without the possibility of parole if found guilty.

The Grubbs face additional charges in Harris County after beating and robbing a woman before fleeing to Shelby County.

They were both apprehended in Cleveland after stealing a car and fleeing the crime scene in Joaquin on April 27, 2012.
