Timpson Chamber's BBQ Cook off, Bike Rally Winners Announced

The Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce held its third annual BBQ Cook-off and Bike Rally Saturday, as BBQ teams competed in beans, brisket, chicken and pork ribs for almost $3,000 in prize money and trophies.

According to chamber president Paul Smith, the Midnight Cookers from Tenaha were crowned the Grand Champion cook team. The Midnight Cookers took first in chicken, second in ribs, and second in brisket to receive the most points. Taking first place beans was the Nacogdoches Go Texan team with chief cook Brian Stephenson; first place ribs to Mitchell 2000 from Many, Louisiana and first place brisket to Big Hoops of Timpson.

Smith said the event drew a good number of motorcycle riders that participated in people’s choice, slowest bike ride and carburetor toss. The People’s Choice award went to Jason Terry of Timpson with his 2011 Evo Frame and ’82 Suzuki engine; slowest bike ride: Dennis Leggett of Joaquin; and carburetor toss: Ernest Parker. Smith expressed his appreciation to all that attended and took part in the cook-off and bike rally.
