Local Sports Round up 5/5/14; Riders Advance to Area Round

 

The Center Roughriders are bi-district baseball champions after sweeping the Rusk Eagles in a two game bi-district series in Lufkin. The Riders are now headed to the area round of the Class 3A state baseball playoffs, and will take on Caldwell. Center opened their first-round series with a 3-0 win Friday night as Dalton Horton went the distance pitching a one-hitter. In Game 2 Saturday, Jacob Mitchell got the win. The site and times for the Rider’s area round series are being finalized. Center Broadcasting will have Rider playoff action on Q-100 KQBB as Don Wall handles the play-by-play.

 

It was a good bi-district round for the other three Dist. 20-3A teams as well, as Carthage, Hudson and Diboll also advance to area.

 

The Joaquin Rams have also picked up a bi-district championship winning both games against Kennard in their Class 1A bi-district series. The Rams took a 6-0 win Friday night as Gage Belrose pitched a complete game. Joaquin took a 10-4 win in Thursday’s opener. The Rams will move on to area where they’ll face West Sabine this week.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs are headed to the second round of the Class 2A baseball playoffs after sweeping their bi-district series with Hemphill. Garrison took a 5-4 win Friday in Hemphill, after a 2-1 decision Thursday at home. The Bulldogs will meet Tatum in area this week.

 

Central Heights beats Corrigan-Camden, 8-1 Friday in a Class 2A bi-district game. The Blue Devils will meet Tatum in area.

 

The Broaddus Bulldogs are finished in the Class 1A playoffs after Dallardsville Big Sandy wins their best-of-three bi-district series in two games. Big Sandy will now face No. 1 state-ranked Douglass in area this week.

 

It came down to Game 3, but the Garrison Lady Bulldogs have advanced to the region quarterfinal round of the Class 2A state softball playoffs with a 2-1win over Sabine Saturday in Marshall. A Game 3 was needed after Sabine took an 8-6 win Friday night. Garrison will now play Woodville in the quarter-finals.
