Local Sports Round up 5/2/14; Lady Dragons Eliminated, Rams Win

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons saw their softball season come to an end last night as Zavalla takes a 5-1 area round win in Nacogdoches. Zavalla will move on to the Class 1A region quarterfinal round where they’ll meet No. 1 state-ranked Alto.

 

In Marshall last night, the Garrison Lady Bulldogs come away with a 5-0 win over Sabine in Game 1 of their best-of-three area round championship series in Marshall. Game 2 will be at 6 tonight at East Texas Baptist University. Game 3, if necessary will be at 2 Saturday in Marshall. The series winner will take on the Woodville/Tatum series winner in the Class 2A region quarterfinals.

 

The Center Roughriders are set to enter the state baseball playoffs tonight for the first time in 9 seasons as they play Rusk in a best-of-three Class 3A bi-district series starting at 7 o’clock at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin. Game 2 will be at 2 Saturday, with a Game 3, to follow if needed. The series winner has the Lorena/Caldwell series winner next in area round. Center Broadcasting will have live coverage of the Riders throughout the state playoffs as Don Wall will be describing every pitch. We'll have the broadcast on Q-100 KQBB starting tonight with pre-game at 6:50.

 

The Joaquin Rams have entered post-season with a 10-4 win over Kennard in Game 1 of their Class 1A best-of-three bi-district series in Woden. Game 2 will be played at 5:30 tonight in Woden. If needed, Game 3 would follow. The series winner will move on to area to meet West Sabine next week.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs opened up the Class 2A playoffs last night with a 2-1 win over the Hemphill Hornets in a best-of-three, home-and-home series. The action heads to Hemphill tonight for Game 2 starting at 7. If a third game is needed, it will be at 2 Saturday in Hemphill. The winner will meet the Hawkins/Elysian Fields winner in the area round next week.

 

Central Heights will take on Corrigan-Camden in a Class 2A bi-district game at 6 tonight at the SFA Jaycee’s Field in Nacogdoches.

 

The Broaddus Bulldogs will play Dallardsville Big Sandy in a Class A bi-district series home-and-home series beginning this afternoon. Game 1 is at 4:30 in Dallardsville, with Game 2 at 11 a.m. Saturday in Broaddus, and if necessary, Game 3 would follow. The series winner has No. 1 state-ranked Douglass in area next week.
