Local Sports Round up 4/21/14

 

The battle for the third and fourth playoff spots in the Dist. 20-3A baseball race has come down to the final week of the regular season, as Center Diboll, and Jasper are fighting it out, Center and Diboll are 5-5, while Jasper is 5-6. The Roughriders have put together a three-game win streak, coming away with a 6-2 win Friday night over Jasper, Diboll lost to district champion Carthage, 1-0 last Thursday. Both Center and Diboll have tough task this week, as the Riders go to Carthage Tuesday night, and have Central at home Friday, while Diboll plays Central tomorrow night, and takes on second place Hudson on Friday, and Jasper finishes out with 1-9 Huntington.

 

Last Thursday, Hudson beat Central, 9-0, to ensure themselves a playoff berth at 8-3.

 

In Dist. 21-1A Friday, Cushing takes an 11-1 win over Tenaha, as the second place Bearkats improve to 11-3. Douglass has taken the district title and is 14-0. The Joaquin Rams have clinched the third and final playoff spot, and are 10-4. The Rams will play their final home game tonight against Timpson as its Senior Night. It’ll also be the Bears’ last game of the season.

 

A score to add from last Thursday, the Shelbyville Dragons take a 22-6 win over Chireno. The Dragons will host Cushing today in Shelbyville’s final home game of the season.

 

Also today, Tenaha goes to Mt. Enterprise.

 

In 23-1A, San Augustine was to have played Brookeland. However, Brookeland had to forfeit. The Wolves will be at district frontrunner and state-ranked Colmesneil Tuesday. Colmesneil beat Broaddus, 11-2 last Thursday, but lost to West Sabine, 17-10 Saturday, as the two are now tied atop the district at 10-1.  Broaddus drops to 8-3, a game ahead of fourth place Zavalla.

The Center Lady Riders’ softball season came to an end Friday night, as Jasper takes an 11-10 win in eight innings. Center ends district at 1-11.

 

Shelbyville and Timpson softball teams will enter the state playoffs this week. The Lady Dragons will play Carlisle at 6 Thursday at Nacogdoches High School in a one-game bi-district playoff; while the Lady Bears take on Cushing in a eest of 3 game bi-district series starting Thursday. Game 1 will be at 4 p.m. at the SFA field, with Game 2 at 3:30 Friday at Nacogdoches High School. Game 3, if necessary, will be played at 4 Monday at the SFA Field.

 

The Dist. 19-2A champion Garrison Lady Bulldogs will play Hemphill in a first-round best of 3 series starting Thursday night in Central. Game 1 is at 6 o’clock, with Game 2 at 7 Friday.

 

Garrison has a warm up game against Huntington at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Huntington.

 

The 36th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Angler’s Take a Kid Fishing Tournament, is coming up, Saturday, May 10 at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend. Sign-ups are underway for the free event, which is for kids 3 to 15. Entry forms are available at Center Broadcasting, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery, and Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center. Also, you can print out an entry form from our Center Broadcasting Co. Website—cbc-radio.com and return to one of the entry locations by May 3.
