Car Chase Enters San Augustine County Over the Weekend

San Augustine County was one of three counties where a car chase took place last Saturday. The Texas Department of Public Safety says the chase began about 10 Saturday night when troopers attempted to stop a Buick driven by 43-year old Craig James Hebert of Huntington, who was driving on state Hwy. 103 east in Angelina County. The pursuit continued through Nacogdoches County and into San Augustine County at speeds exceeding 100 mph. David Hendry with DPS says Hebert was passing other motorist in dangerous sections of the highway in an attempt to elude police. Hendry said the vehicle was eventually stopped in San Augustine County and Hebert was taken into custody. He’s been charged with evading arrest detention with a vehicle, possession of a dangerous drug, driving while intoxicated and five outstanding traffic warrants. He remained in the Angelina County Jail as of yesterday.
