A body found in Newton County last week is suspected to be that of a missing San Augustine man. Newton County Sheriff Eddie Shannon says deputies were called to a location near Burkeville Wednesday afternoon when the body was discovered. He said all indications are the person is 53-year old Allen Ray McKinney, who was last seen Feb. 21 when he left his mother’s home in San Augustine. Sheriff Shannon said San Augustine County deputies assisted Newton County investigators with processing the scene. An autopsy was ordered to make positive identification, and there’s no word if foul play is suspected. McKinney, who lived with his mother, Thelma McKinney, told her he was going to visit a friend, and he would be back the following day. However, he never returned. The incident continues under investigation.
