Local Sports Round up 4/11/14; Timpson boys, Shelbyville girls Take District Track Titles

 

The District 21-1A Track & Field Meet was held at Shelbyville Dragon Stadium Wednesday & Thursday and taking the boys’ overall team championship was Timpson with 222 points, followed by Tenaha with 182, Martinsville was third with 72 points, with Shelbyville in fourth with 60, and Joaquin fifth with 41 points. As for the girls’ championship, the title goes to Shelbyville with 255 points, in second was Tenaha with 99, Timpson third with 84, Joaquin was fifth with 55, Gary had 31 points for sixth, and Martinsville finished seventh with 29 points.

The top finishers in each event advance to the area track and field meet to be held next Wednesday in Shelbyville.

 

A reminder, Center ISD is hosting a Special Olympics Meet for area participants from 9 to 12 noon today at Roughrider Stadium.

 

Baseball today:

 

The Center Roughriders have a bye. The Riders are 3-5, a half-game back of fourth-place Diboll. The top 4 teams advance to the playoffs. Center is scheduled to play a non-district game at Kilgore tomorrow, and will resume district Tuesday at Huntington. It’ll be the first of three district road games in-a-row for the Riders.

 

In Dist. 21-1A, Shelbyville will be at third-place Joaquin, and Tenaha at Timpson.

 

Dist. 23-1A, San Augustine goes to state-ranked West Sabine.

 

In Dist. 19-2A, second-place Garrison has a bye today.

 

Softball:

 

The Center Lady Riders have a bye today, and will play their final home game Tuesday night with Huntington. It’s also Senior Night.

 

In District 21-1A, Gary goes to second-place Shelbyville; and in a battle for third place, it's Timpson at Joaquin.

 

In Dist. 19-2A, the district-leading Garrison Lady Bulldogs are idle today.

 

We're just a month away from the 36th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Angler’s Take A Kid Fishing Tournament, to be held, Saturday, May 10 at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend. Sign-ups are underway for the free event, which is for kids 3 to 15. Entry forms are available at Center Broadcasting, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery, and Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center. Also, you can print out an entry form from our Center Broadcasting Co. Website—cbc-radio.com and return to one of the entry locations by May 3.
