Local Sports Round up 4/9/14

Varsity and JV high school track and field meets are taking place today & Thursday.

 

The District 20-3A meet is in Carthage

The District 21-1A meet is being held in Shelbyville, starting at 10 this morning with field events, and prelim running at 4 p.m. The running event finals will be at 6 Thursday.

The District 23-1A meet is in San Augustine

The Dist. 19-2A is taking place in Crockett.

 

Center ISD is hosting a Special Olympics Meet for area participants from 9 to 12 noon Friday at Roughrider Stadium.

 

Baseball last night:

 

In Diboll last night, the Center Roughriders came away with a big 3-1 win over the Lumberjacks to keep their post-season hopes alive. The victory gives the Riders a 3-5 district mark and leaves them just a half-game back of Diboll in fourth place with four games left on the schedule. Center has a bye Friday. Meanwhile in the district last night, District frontrunner Hudson beat Huntington, 11-1; Central beat Jasper, 4-3, dropping Jasper to 4-4.

 

It was upset mode in Joaquin last night, as the Tenaha Tigers take a 10-9 win over the Joaquin Rams. The loss drops Joaquin to 8-4, as the Rams have a two-game lead for third in 21-1A over Timpson, as the Bears lose to Douglass, 18-1. Douglass improves to 12-0. Cushing is in second. No score available on Shelbyville-Martinsville.

 

The San Augustine Wolves were beaten by Zavalla, 10-7, dropping the Wolves to 3-6. Meanwhile, Broaddus takes down Brookeland, 8-3, as the Bulldogs are in third place in 23-1A. District leading Colmesneil keeps rolling, a 19-4 win over Burkeville, and West Sabine over Chester, 20-4. Colmesneil is 8-0, West Sabine is 7-1, and Zavalla is 6-2.

 

In Dist. 19-2A, Garrison over Crockett, 12-0, improving Garrison’s record to 7-2. Central Heights beat Palestine Westwood, 13-3, to push the Blue Devils’ record to 8-1. Elkhart beat Woden, 7-4.

 

As for softball:

The Center Lady Riders now have a Dist. 20-3A win, as they come away with an 8-7 victory over Diboll. Center is 1-9 and is open Friday. Hudson knocked off district leading and No. 2 state-ranked Huntington last night.

 

In Dist. 21-1A, the Shelbyville Lady Dragons have taken over second place with a 6-3 win over the Timpson Lady Bears. Shelbyville is now 7-3, Timpson drops into a tie with the Joaquin Lady Rams at 6-4 for third, as Joaquin beats Martinsville, 12-2. Timpson-Joaquin will clash head on Friday in Joaquin.

Beckville leads the district undefeated.

 

 

Sign-ups are underway for the 36th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Angler’s Take A Kid Fishing Tournament, to be held, Saturday, May 10 at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend. The free event is for kids 3 to 15. Entry forms are available at Center Broadcasting, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery, and Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center.
