More Details Released in Teen's Drowning in San Augustine

We told you Tuesday that a young man lost his life in a boating mishap in San Augustine Monday. There are now more details of that drowning incident that occurred at City Lake.

 

According to San Augustine Police Chief Jessee Fountain, a 13-year old  Kendall Singleton, was one of four occupants, along with his father, Jeffrey Armstrong, and two other adults, in a 12-foot aluminum boat when the front of the vessel began to sink and take on water. Chief Fountain said the group had just launched and were around 300-feet from the boat ramp, when another fisherman in the lake saw the individuals in trouble and went over to assist. Three of the boat’s occupants were pulled to safety, while Kendall Singleton went under and was not recovered in time.

 

Games wardens began dragging the lake and found the boat and body of the victim around 8:25. Chief Fountain said witnesses stated the boat appeared to have too many people on board, and none were wearing life jackets. J

 

ustice of the Peace Pct. 4 J.D. Miller conducted an inquest at the scene and ordered an autopsy.

 

San Augustine ISD officials say outside counselors were on hand at the middle school yesterday to help students deal with grief.
