Local National Child Abuse Awareness Event Scheduled Friday in Center

April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month. In order to call attention to the serious problem of abuse in Shelby County, the Community Partners Rainbow Room will decorate a “Blue Ribbon Tree” on the West side of the Courthouse Square. The blue ribbons symbolize the black and blue marks often left on the body of an abused child. Volunteers will tie a blue ribbon on each of the 80 victims of abuse in Shelby County during 2013. A small cross will be displayed in memory of the one child who did not survive. The ribbon event will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, April 4. The community is invited to attend, weather permitting.
