Local Sports Round up 4/3/14

Weather permitting, there are a number of events scheduled to take place today.

 

It's the second round of the District 20-3A golf tournament today at Neches Pines Golf Course in Diboll.

 

Track & Field meets scheduled today: Garrison High School is hosting the Horace Francis Relays, with Garrison, Center and San Augustine taking part; Timpson teams go to the meet in New Summerfield.

 

By the way, the district 21-1A, Jr. High Meet that was scheduled for today in Timpson, has been rescheduled until Monday.

 

Shelbyville tracksters will be taking part in the Spring Hill Meet on Saturday.

 

On Friday, April 11th, Center ISD is hosting a Special Olympics Meet for area participants. The event will be at Roughrider Stadium from 9-12. 

 

Baseball: The Center Roughriders will attempt to put back-to-back wins together for the first time in district as they host Hudson Friday night. The Riders are 2-4, and Hudson is 5-1.

 

District 21-1A baseball Friday: Joaquin is home to play district front-runner Douglass; Mt. Enterprise goes to Timpson; the Tenaha Tigers go to Martinsville Saturday; and the Shelbyville Dragons have a bye Friday.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs are home to play district leading Central Heights today, weather permitting, and the San Augustine Wolves go to Burkeville Friday.

 

The state rankings are out from Texas High School Baseball and Douglass remains No. 1 in Class A, with Colmesneil at No. 9, West Sabine No. 11, Cushing No. 16, and the Joaquin Rams have entered the rankings at No. 20. In Class 2A, Brock's the top team, with Central Heights at No. 18; Class 3A's top team is still College Station, with Carthage No. 12, followed by Diboll at No. 13; Moody holds down No. 1 in 4A; while Pearland is No. 1 in 5A.

 

Softball last night: The Timpson Lady Bears beat Gary, 13-1, to remain in a three-way tie for second in Dist. 21-1A with Joaquin and Shelbyville. All have 5-3 records. Timpson goes to Martinsville Friday; The Shelbyville Lady Dragons head to Chireno today, and the Joaquin Lady Rams are scheduled to host Chireno Friday. Beckville leads the district undefeated.

 

Chireno Lady Owl basketball standout, senior Lauren Lee will be playing in two all-star games. She’ll play in the Angelina vs. Nacogdoches county all-star game April 17, and will take part in the Texas high school hall of fame Texas all-star shoot-out May 10 in Waco. She was the MVP of District 25-1A, and helped to lead the Chireno girls to an undefeated district record and regional quarterfinal berth. Lee has committed to play basketball at Southern Arkansas.


Sign-ups are underway for the 36th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Angler’s Take A Kid Fishing Tournament, to be held, Saturday, May 10 at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend. The free event is for kids 3 to 15. Entry forms are available at Center Broadcasting, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery, and Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center. Also, you can print out an entry form from our Center Broadcasting Co. Website—cbc-radio.com and return to one of the entry locations by Saturday, May 3.
