Local Sports Round up 4/1/14

It’s the last game of the first round of the District 20-3A baseball schedule for the Center Roughriders, as they head to Central tonight. The Riders are 1-4, just ahead of winless Huntington, while Central is 2-3. Carthage tops the district standings at 5-0, while Hudson is 4-1, Diboll is 3-2, and Jasper is 3-3.

 

Baseball action yesterday, in a couple of make-ups from last Friday’s rain-out, the Joaquin Rams take a 12-0 win over Chireno; and the state’s top-ranked Class A team, Douglass, shuts-out the Tenaha Tigers, 10-0. Joaquin improves to 6-2, while Tenaha drops to 0-7. The Rams go to Mt. Enterprise today, and the Tigers head to 2-5 Shelbyville.

 

In another Dist. 21-1A game today, 5-3 Timpson goes to 5-2 Cushing. By the way, Timpson’s rained-out game with Chireno is scheduled to be played April 7 in Timpson.

 

In Dist. 23-1A, the San Augustine Wolves are 3-4 after a 5-3 win over Chester Monday. S.A. goes to Burkeville Friday. Broaddus beat Burkeville yesterday, 11-0, as the Bulldogs improve to 4-2. West Sabine is a half-game back of district leading Colmesneil at 5-1, after a 9-3 win over Zavalla Saturday.

 

In Dist. 19-2A, Garrison is scheduled to be home against district front-runner Central Heights on Thursday.

 

Softball today: The Center Lady Riders’ game that had been originally scheduled for Thursday in Central has been rescheduled to be played tonight, Tuesday in Central.

 

The state’s No. 1 ranked team, Beckville will be at Timpson in Dist. 21-1A action.

 

The District 20-3A golf tournament will be played tomorrow and Thursday at Neches Pines Golf Course in Diboll.
