The Texas Workforce Commission has released the February unemployment rates for the state and Texas is a full-point below the national average at 5.7 percent. In Shelby County, the February rate is the same as January’s at 6.4 percent, and down from this time a year ago when it was 7.1 percent. In San Augustine County, the unemployment rate is near double-digit, coming in at 9.7 percent, up slightly from 9.4 in January, and almost a point down from February 2013. Sabine County has one of the highest in the state at 12.9 percent. However, it’s better than the 14.3 a year ago and right at January’s rate. In neighboring counties, the unemployment rate in Nacogdoches County was 5.7 percent; Angelina County is 5.6 percent, and Panola County has one of the lowest in the state at only 4.5 percent unemployment.
