Sabine River Bridge Replacement Project Continues as Expected

The Texas Department of Transportation says construction to replace the U.S. Hwy 84 Bridge at the Texas/Louisiana state line continues with little to no impact to the traveling public at this time. TxDOT’s Kathi White says the project is progressing on schedule. Some of the jobs include dredging the river, working on box culverts in various locations, building drainage structures and conducting prep work for building the new eastbound bridge. The $20.8-million joint project between Texas and Louisiana is expected to be complete in the summer of 2016. The 78-year old current bridge is being replaced by a pair of one way two-lane bridges to provide a safer and more efficient crossing of the Sabine River.
