Local Sports Round up 3/31/14

Despite the threat of storms, the Center Roughriders and Carthage Bulldogs got their District 20-3A baseball game in Friday night. However, it was all Carthage as the district leaders take a 10-1win to drop Center’s district record to 1-4, while Carthage moves on to 5-0. The Riders go to Central tomorrow night.

 

In Dist. 21-1A, the Joaquin Rams have moved into sole possession of second, after a 12-10 win over Cushing Saturday. Gage Belrose went 4 for 4 at the plate, with little brother Nate Belrose getting a game-winning triple in the Top of the 7th to secure the win. The Rams will be at Mt. Enterprise Tuesday, and are tentatively to make up Friday’s missed game (due to weather) with Chireno at home Wednesday.

 

Elsewhere in other make up games today, Timpson will hosts Chireno at 5, to make up Saturday’s missed game; and Tenaha will go to district-leading Douglass for a 4:30 first pitch.

 

Word from Shelbyville is that all baseball and softball games that were scheduled for Friday and Saturday were cancelled due to weather. It’s not sure when those game will be made up.

 

The San Augustine Wolves get their second Dist. 23-1A win Friday, taking a 7-5 decision over Chester. The Wolves are 2-4, have a bye Tuesday, and will go to Burkeville Friday.

 

Softball Friday:

 

The Center Lady Riders take a tough loss against Carthage, losing 10-0. Center is 0-7, and will be at Central Thursday.

 

The Timpson Lady Bears game with Gary was also cancelled.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs are 8-0 after a 7-6 win Saturday over Elkhart. Garrison has a bye Tuesday, and will be home against Central Heights Friday.

 

The Timpson Bear Varsity track and field team won its third meet of the season Thursday when they took first in the Huntington meet. Timpson had 99 points, 9 points ahead of second-place Crockett, with Corrigan-Camden coming in third with 72 points. Timpson won the 800-meter relay; second in the 400-meter relay; first and second in the 800 meter run; took first and third in the 100 meter dash; first and second in the 200 meter dash; and won the mile run. The Timpson Boys JV was third in their division; and the Timpson girls took fourth in their division. The Bears have one final meet before district as they’ll be at New Summerfield Thursday.

 

The SFA Ladyjacks lose to Illinois-Chicago Saturday, 73-64, in the championship game of the Women’s Basketball Invitational in Chicago. The Ladyjacks become the first team in the program’s history to win three games in a post-season tournament.
