Local Sports Round up 3/27/14

The Center High School Lady Rider Golf Team took third place at the Grapeland Sandies Golf Classic Tuesday in Crockett. Making up the Lady Rider Team is Senior-Ruth Santana, Freshman-Kailey Agnew, Freshman-Madison Agnew, Freshman-Callie Johnson and Coach Alden Reeves. Seven girls' teams took part in the event. The District Boys and Girls golf tournament will be held next Wednesday & Thursday at the Neches Pines golf course in Diboll.

 

The District 21-A golf tournament was held at Woodland Hills Golf Course in Nacogdoches this week, and the Joaquin Lady Ram and Ram golfers will be advancing to the regional golf tournament. The Lady Rams took first place, while the Ram linksters were second behind Cushing.

 

Weather permitting; Center High School is hosting its annual JV & Varsity Track Meet—The Rider Relays, starting at 4 p.m. this afternoon at Roughrider Stadium.

 

Meanwhile, San Augustine is hosting the S.A. Alumni Relays today as a number of area teams will be taking part, including Tenaha. Timpson tracksters go to Huntington; and Garrison at the West Rusk Relays.

 

Baseball Friday:

 

The Center Roughriders will take on district leading Carthage Friday night. The Riders are 1-3 in Dist. 20-3A, while Carthage is off to a 4-0 start.

 

In Dist. 21-1A, its Chireno at Joaquin, Tenaha at Douglass and Mt. Enterprise at Shelbyville.

 

Saturday’s action, Joaquin at Cushing, Shelbyville at Douglass, and Chireno at Timpson.

 

In District 23-1A, Chester at San Augustine

 

The Texas High School Baseball Coaches' Rankings are out for the week and Douglass is No. 1 in Class A, while Colmesneil is 10th, with West Sabine No. 13. Hughes Springs is tops in 2A with Central Heights No. 17. In 3A, College Station is No. 1, with Diboll up to No. 2; and in 4A, Moody is the top team, and Pearland has moved into the No. 1 spot in 5A.

 

Softball Friday:

 

The Center Lady Riders are still in search of their first district win and will host Carthage.

 

In other district action, Shelbyville at Beckville, Gary at Timpson, and Joaquin has a bye.

 

Garrison will go to Elkhart

 

The Texas Girls Coaches Association Poll has Beckville still No. 1 in 1A; Natalia is No. 1 in Class 2A; LaGrange is the top ranked team in 3A, with Hudson No. 6, Carthage No. 11; Barbers Hill is the 4A No. 1 softball team; and Katy Cinco Ranch is the 5A No. 1 team.

 

The SFA Ladyjacks basketball team is playing College of Charleston tonight in the semi-finals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
