Center P & Z Denies Restaurant; Council Meets Today

The Center Planning and Zoning Commission met last Thursday, and voted to deny a rezoning request for a proposed Mexican Food restaurant at 223 Travis Street. Around 8 to 9 households showed up or sent letters to voice their concern and disapproval, citing there was already an establishment of that nature in the neighborhood. The P & Z did approve a specific use permit for the structure at 419 Carroll Street, the location of the former Treasure Trove, to be used as a Hispanic church. The site had been a church previously.

The Center City Council will consider these two items when they meet in regular session at 5 this afternoon. In addition, the council will approve participation in the State of Texas Cooperative Purchasing Program; a resolution denoting April as Fair Housing Month; a change order for MLK Drive Reconstruction Project; and appointments to the Deep East Texas Council of Governments Board of Directors.
