Power Outages Reported During Saturday Night Rain

Saturday night’s line of thunderstorms that preceded the latest cold front brought with it primarily rain to our area, almost an inch-and-seven tenths, according to Jim Forbes. We were spared the brunt of the storms here in Deep East Texas and Western Louisiana as cooler daytime high temperatures Saturday kept the outbreak of severe storm activity at a minimum. The strongest storms stayed just south of the immediate area, as penny to quarter-size hail was reported just north of Lufkin around 1 a.m. Sunday.

There were also reports of area-wide electrical power outages from SWEPCO and Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative during the height of the storm activity after 8 Saturday night. In the Center area SWEPCO is saying just over 1,000 customers in Shelby County, and almost 250 in DeSoto Parish were without electricity during the evening, but service was restored by midnight to most areas. It's believed the Shelby County outage was brought about by a tree that fell upon power lines.

DETEC is reporting minimal outages reported during the storms, these were primarily south of Joaquin off FM 139, and also in Panola County along FM 699, and more numerous outings in Sabine County.

A slow warming trend and mostly clear weather can be expected from midweek until the next cold front arrives this weekend.
