San Augustine County: Skeletal Remains Found Wednesday

The San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains in a wooded area in the western part of the county Wednesday afternoon.

Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham said a timber management company surveyor made the find, and his department has no idea about the identity of the person, and not sure if they are a man’s or woman’s. Chief Cunningham said the remains had been there for an extended time.

The San Augustine County Sheriff’s Department gathered the skeletal remains from the area Thursday morning, and they were sent to a forensic anthropologist at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville for DNA analysis.

It’s not known if there was any other evidence found at the scene that would ID the person.
