As construction of the U.S. Hwy. 84 Sabine River Bridge Replacement Projects gets in full swing, TxDOT has announced the closure of Chestnut Street in Logansport, starting in about a week, around March 10, weather permitting. Project contractor, James Construction will close the street as work begins on the new eastbound lanes of U.S. 84. Once closed, Chestnut Street is expected to remain closed until Sept. 2015. Kathi White of TxDOT said motorist should be prepared for delays and are advised to plan to use alternate routes. When completed in the summer of 2016, the $20.4 million project will include a pair of one way, two-lane bridges, one for eastbound the other for westbound traffic. The new eastbound lanes will run from approximately CR 3598 to LA 5. The present bridge was constructed in 1936.
