Local Sports Round up 2/21/14; Tenaha Wins Area Game

The Tenaha Tigers entered the Class 1A, Div. 1 basketball playoffs last night with a 52-46 area round win over West Sabine in Lufkin. Tenaha advances to the region quarterfinal round and will play the winner of the Big Sandy/New Summerfield area game being played at 7 tonight in Hudson.

 

In another Class 1A, Div. 1 area basketball game tonight, the San Augustine Wolves will take on the Martinsville Pirates at 6:30 p.m. in Woden. The winner gets the winner of Alto/Brookeland contest being played at 6 tonight in Lufkin at the middle school gym, in the region quarterfinals next week.

 

In Class 2A boys’ second-round playoff games tonight: Central Heights against Hawkins at 8 in Tatum; Kountze plays Waskom - 8:30 @ Woden High School, and White Oak vs Crockett - 7:30 @ Nacogdoches High School.

 

In a Class 3A area game last night involving Dist. 20-3A champ Central, the Bulldogs take a 73-58 win over Taylor.

 

The Tenaha Lady Tigers are in the Region III Basketball  Tournament at Tyler Junior College. Tenaha will play Kerens at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Wagstaff Gym in a region semifinal. The Lady Tigers are on a 7-game winning streak, and are making their first appearance in the region tournament in 14 seasons. Martins Mill will take on Cushing at 5 in the other semi today. The region final will be Saturday at 3:30, with the winner advancing to state.

 

The Central Heights Lady Blue Devils are in the Class 2A, Region III Basketball Tournament at SFA. They'll play Franklin at 6 tonight in semi-final action. Tatum takes on Crawford in the 8 p.m. semi. The Region Final is 12 noon Saturday in Nacogdoches.

 

 

 

High School baseball action scheduled today:

 

The Center Roughriders are playing in the Palestine/Elkhart Tournament through Saturday.

The Joaquin Rams and Garrison Bulldogs are in the Pine Cone Classic in Hemphill/Pineland.

The Shelbyville Dragons & Timpson Bears are taking part in the Alto Tournament.

The San Augustine Wolves are playing in the Cushing tournament.

The Center JV Riders are in the Jacksonville Tournament

 

Girls’ softball:

 

The Center Lady Riders, Joaquin Lady Rams and Timpson Lady Bears are playing in the Nacogdoches/Central Heights Tournament through Saturday.

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons have an alumni game at 6 tonight.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs host Woodville today.

 

Soccer: The Center Roughriders and Lady Riders have district games with Jacksonville. The Riders are home, while the Lady Riders go to Jacksonville. Games start at 5:30 & 7 p.m.

 

Tennis: The Center Roughrider Varsity teams will be at Spring Hill Saturday. The Center tennis team competed last week in a 16 school Varsity tennis tournament and finished 3rd place overall
