Riders, Dragons lose, Lady Tigers Advance to Region Tourney

The Center Roughriders come up short in the state playoffs last night, as Fairfield takes a 77-58 win in a Class 3A, bi-district basketball game in Rusk. Fairfield advances to the area round. The only District 20-3A team to advance is Central, who was able to take a victory over Rusk, 52-34. Mexia beat Diboll, 76-59, and Palestine squeezed by Jasper, 53-52.

 

In the Shelbyville Dragons’ Class 1A, Div. 1 bi-district game against New Summerfield in Tatum, the Dragons fall, 72-59; and Martinsville advances to the area round with a 40-36 win over Mt. Enterprise. Martinsville’s will play San Augustine at 7 p.m. Friday in Woden.

 

The Tenaha Tigers have a Class 1A, Div. 1 area round game at 7 p.m. Thursday against West Sabine. That game will be played at Lufkin Middle School Gym. Tenaha had a first-round bye, and West Sabine defeated Colmesneil, 84-30 Monday.

 

Now to the girls’ region quarterfinal action:

In the all-Shelby County clash last night in Carthage, the Tenaha Lady Tigers take a 52-35 win over the Shelbyville Lady Dragons, sending Tenaha to the Region III tournament Friday in Tyler. Tenaha will play Kerens at 3 p.m. Friday at Tyler Jr. College’s Wagstaff Gym in a region semifinal. Martins Mill will take on Cushing at 5 in the other semi.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs found the going tough against district and Nacogdoches County rival, Central Heights, as the Lady Blue Devils come away with a 78-44 Class 2A, region quarterfinal win in Tenaha. Central Heights plays Franklin at 6 Friday night at SFA in the Region III semi-finals. Tatum takes on Crawford in the 8 p.m. semi.

 

The Chireno girls lose to Calvert, 58-53 in a Class 1A, Div. II region quarterfinal game.
