Early Voting Starts Today for Primary Election

Early voting begins today and continues through Feb. 28 for the March 4 Party Primary Election.

 

Here are the hours for early voting, starting today. In Shelby County, Early Voting is taking place at the county clerk’s office on the south-side of the Center Square. This week you can vote from 8 to 4:30, Tuesday through Friday, and weekend voting from 10 to 2, Sat., Feb. 22, and 12-4 on Sun Feb. 23. Next week, Feb. 24-28, the hours are 8 to 4:30.

 

In San Augustine County, early voting’s at election administrator Deborah Woods’ office from 8 to 4 Tues-Friday of this week, and 10-3 Sat. Feb. 22. Next week, Mon-Fri, voting is from 8 to 4. At the Broaddus Community Center from 9 to 4 Tues-Fri, and from 10-3 Sat, Feb. 22. Next week, voting will take place in Broaddus from 9 to 4, Feb. 24-28.

 

In Shelby County, there are two contested races in the Democratic Primary; and five in the Republican Primary.

 

In the Democratic primary, the commissioner Pct. 4 race pits incumbent Bradley Allen against Howard Sparks; and in the Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 Democratic Primary, Shonda Clifton goes up against Jenny L. Hicks.

 

As for the Republican Party primary, the Shelby County judges’ race features incumbent Rick Campbell against current county clerk Allison Harbison. In the county treasurer’s primary, it’s challenger Ann Blackwell and incumbent Joan Rodgers; the Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Republican primary is a three-way race, with William Eddins, Melissa Crouch and Barbara Scates vying for a win in the primary; JP Pct. 2 pits Marla Denby and Mark E. Swift; and in Justice of the Peace Pct. 5 Republican primary, T. Lee Williams is challenged by Mike Crouch.

 

In San Augustine County, there’s one contested race, that being in the Republican Primary for County Commissioner Pct. 4. Candidate include, Steve Bryan, Joe Hanks, Jim Sower and David McEachern.

 

You're reminded you must have a photo ID in order to vote. If you don’t have a Drivers’ License or other form of photo ID, the Texas Dept. of Public Safety is issuing free Election Identification Certificates. In San Augustine County, Election Administrator Deborah Woods is also providing the free IDs.
