A Logansport man, who’s also a jailer at the DeSoto Parish Detention Center in Mansfield, has been charged with inappropriately touching a female inmate. Fifty-year old Robert L. Smith was terminated Thursday and arrested for Malfeasance in Office Sexual Conducted Prohibited with Persons in Custody. An allegation was reported by the prisoner Monday, and an investigation was initiated into the complaint. Robert Smith had been employed with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office since 2008 as a corrections officer. His bond was set at $7,500, he has been released after posting bond. If convicted, the offense carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and/or a ten thousand dollar fine.
