Tiede Hearings Scheduled for Wednesday

In Panola County, there will be a hearing Wednesday afternoon to hear matters in convicted murderer Bernie Tiede’s appeal.

According to the Panola Watchman newspaper, documents were filed last week that included the official recusal of 123rd District Judge Charles “Brick” Dickerson, the appointment of Judge Diane DeVasto, and Criminal District Attorney Danny Buck Davidson filing of the writ of habeas corpus on Tiede’s behalf.

Before the recusal, Judge Dickerson ordered Tide’s writ be sealed and gave no reason, and said he wanted to remove himself since he had represented murder victim Majorie Nugent’s estate against Tiede. Tiede’s serving a life-sentence for the murder of Ms. Nugent.

At the time, he was the beneficiary of Ms. Nugent’s multi-million dollar estate. He’s served 14 years for murder intentionally causing death.
