DeSoto Parish Arrest Nets Suspect for Child Stealing

A traffic stop by a Desoto Sheriff’s Deputy last week results in the recovery of a missing child and arrest of a suspect on a warrant of Child Stealing. Authorities say 32-Jesse James Rebel, who had been living in an RV park in Logansport, was booked into the DeSoto Parish Jail on a warrant out of Los Angeles.

Deputy’s stopped a motor home on U.S. Hwy. 171 near Kickapoo for expired license plate. After questioning Rebel, a check produced he was wanted. A search of the vehicle resulted in locating a two-year old child, a large amount of cash and three firearms. A follow up determined Rebel to be the biological father of the child, who disappeared in November of last year with the child, had not made contact with the child’s mother, and gave no indication he was leaving with the child.

Rebel had cashed out large sums of money from a bank account, obtained the motor home and was traveling with the child living out of the motor home. The child was placed with the Office of Child Services pending arrangements to return the child to the mother California. Rebel indicated he had been staying at the Logansport RV park for a few weeks and said he was heading to his home in North Dakota when he was stopped.

Rebel is awaiting extradition to California with a bond of $120-thousand.
