Center ISD Has No Plans to Have Guns on Non-Police Personnel

An area school district’s board has given approval to a new security measure which will address possible invasion danger. The Carthage ISD Board of Trustees last week gave the OK for trained, licensed, and unidentified school personnel to carry guns on their person at all campuses.

Needless to say, there have been mixed reviews to that decision by Carthage school parents and the public.

arrying guns by unidentified school employees in the Center ISD is not something that will happen any time soon, Superintendent Dr. James Hockenberry told me Wednesday. He said student safety is the Center ISDs first priority, and administrators and the board of trustees review and discuss safety plans and practice safety “drills” regularly.

Hockenberry said with Center ISD fortunate to have its own police department, and the recent addition of a third officer, the district can better recognize safety issues and respond accordingly. He added student safety will be monitored on a regular basis, and the Center ISD will continue to do all they can to keep students safe.

Hockenberry mentioned more police officers could be added in the future to the Center ISD force.
