Local Sports Roundup 1/28/14

The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches weekly rankings are out and the San Augustine Wolves and Tenaha Tigers are No. 8 and 9 respectively in the Class 1A, Div. 1 poll.

 

As for girls’ Zavalla is No. 22, and Cushing is No. 25 in Class 1A, Div. 1, and the Chireno Lady Owls are No. 11 in the Class 1A, Div. II rankings. The Central Heights girls are still No. 4 in Class 2A, undefeated at 28-0.

 

We haven’t heard from any school administrators as to postponing basketball games tonight, so, until further notice, its game night.

 

In District 20-3A, the Riders and Lady Riders have the night off, Central is to go to Carthage, Diboll at Huntington and Hudson at Jasper. The Riders are tied with Central and Jasper for first-place at 6-2.

 

In District 22-1A, Div. 1, the Tenaha Tigers are 5-0 in first, with Shelbyville, Gary and Martinsville in a three-way tie for second at 3-2. Tonight’s schedule games, weather permitting, Gary at Shelbyville, Joaquin at Tenaha and Martinsville at Timpson.

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons are leading the girls’ with a 7-0 mark.

 

In District 23-1A, Div. 1, the 4-1 San Augustine Wolves are a game back of West Sabine, while Broaddus is 3-2. Tonight, it’s San Augustine at Broaddus, Pineywoods at Broaddus and West Sabine at Brookeland.

 

In District 19-2A, scheduled tonight are Garrison at district-leading Crockett, Palestine Westwood at Central Heights, and Woden at Elkhart.

 

Center ASA Girls Softball Sign Ups will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, January 31, and 10 a.m. to noon, Febuary 1. Sign-ups will be held at the NEW Softball Complex on Roughrider Drive. Cost is $80. Please bring a copy of your child's birth certificate. Uniforms will be available for sizing so please have child with you.

 

The Shelbyville Youth Baseball/Softball signup's will be held Friday, January  31st & Saturday, Feb. 1st. Sign-ups will be held at First Baptist Church in Shelbyville. You’re requested to bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate to sign-ups if they have never played before. The ages are 5 to 14 years old. Cost is $70 -1st child; $65 -2nd; and $60 for each additional child. Opening Day will be Saturday, March 29th.

 

The Joaquin Youth Sports, Inc. will hold registration for the 2014 baseball/softball season Saturday, February 1 at the JHS Gym from 9:00am-2:00pm. Registration Fee: $80 a child/$160 household.
