Shelbyville ISD Hears From Turf Rep; No Decision Made

The Shelbyville ISD Board of Trustees held a called meeting Tuesday so board members and the community could receive information from an artificial turf company, after an interest was shown in the possibility of having Dragon Stadium's surface replaced with turf.

Superintendent Dr. Ray West said a representative from Hellas Construction explained the advantages of going with artificial turf, and answered questions. As for the school board moving forward to have turf installed, Dr. West told me that would be up to the trustees in wanting it placed on a meeting agenda for possible action. He added, "we're always wanting to do what's in the best interest for our students. We have the funds to move forward, if the board should decide." Dr. West said the price for installation would run around $750-thousand.

Providing an all-weather surface for baseball, softball and band practice were advantages he mentioned.
