MLK Day Events

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Observance Day, a national holiday observed by federal, state, and local municipalities, and there’s also no school today.

On tap later today will be a couple of MLK Day Parade and Marches. In San Augustine at 1 o’clock, events start at the Lincoln School. Activities then move to the San Augustine Museum Theatre where the program, “Moving Forward in Unity” will be held. Speaker will be Rev. George Simon.

In Center, participants will line up inside the Center Square beginning at 3:30 this afternoon for the 4 o’clock parade. Participants will enter the Square at the corner of Shelbyville & San Augustine Streets, and make 2 to 3 trips around the Square. At the conclusion, they’ll re-enter the inside of the Square for a prayer and dismissal.
