Day 2 of Capital Murder Trial

At Day 2 of the Capital Murder trial of Shakeitha Cartwright, the woman accused of beating her five-month old daughter to death a year ago, District Attorney Kenneth Florence presented a police video of an interview in which Cartwright said she was surprised at the multiple broken bones her child had, when she was told by investigators that both of Keilly Hoyt’s arms were broken. Cartwright said she never noticed anything. The 30-year old faces life in prison, if she’s found guilty by the jury.

Cartwright is accused of inflicting multiple injuries upon the child from broken bones, to bruises, to bite marks and her eventual death. Called to testify yesterday were Center Police Detective Nicole Faulkner and former District Attorney Investigator Kevin Windham, who conducted the initial three-hour interview with Cartwright. Both said Cartwright showed inconsistencies from saying at first that she didn’t cause the injuries, to the tone that she did by the end of the interview.

Day 3 of testimony continues today in District Judge Charles Mitchell’s 273rd District Court.
