S.A. County Commissioners Table Request

At Tuesday’s San Augustine County Commissioners’ Court meeting, Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Billy Williams made a request to the court for office personnel assistance. County Judge Samye Johnson said Judge Williams’ staff reduction was among the budget cuts made county-wide. She said the request would need to be discussed with the county treasurer regarding whether or not funds were in place to accommodate the office help. The issue was tabled until the next meeting.

Judge Johnson also advised Emmet Luman presented to the court his plan to open a BINGO game facility in the southern part of the county at a former restaurant. His plans include food and drink. Luman had previously been told by County Attorney Wesley Hoyt that he would need to contact the Texas BINGO Commission to begin the process of licensing. Commissioners agreed to close the east side of the court house parking lot on Thursday, Jan. 23 to accommodate the Deep East Council of Governments meeting at the Museum Theatre.

The San Augustine County Commissioners’ Court will be meeting in special session at 9 a.m. next Tuesday, Jan. 21 to Consider and take appropriate action to give Judge Johnson the authority to sign documents for the Multi Service Building; Discuss and take action on County Park maintenance; and consider and take appropriate action concerning fuel bids made to the county.
