Desoto Parish officials seeking cooper thieves

Desoto Parish Crime Stoppers is asking for help in locating the suspect or suspects that entered the Dolet Hills Mine in Mansfield, Louisiana in the early morning hours of Dec. 28 thru 30th, and made off with an estimated 500 feet of four-inch cooper cable valued at over $35,000.

Authorities say an unknown make/model pickup truck pulling a flatbed trailer traveled to an isolated area where the suspect or suspects cut up the cable with what appeared to be a hacksaw. The cable is used to power a dragline for the mine, and weighs about 11 pounds a foot. Desoto Parish officials are making a request to all scrap metal locations for any excess of copper wire being brought in, or anyone that has information on the theft.

Desoto Parish Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect/suspects. Call 1-800-505-STOP (7867) or the Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-872-3956.
