A San Augustine County family is counting their blessings as they escaped a fire that destroyed their home New Year’s Day.
No injuries were reported in the blaze that claimed the Broaddus home of Sandra Bonilla and her husband.
Ms. Bonilla said she woke up around 1:15 a.m. to discover her house located on County Road 4600, filled with smoke. She was able to awaken her husband, and they both fled the structure. The Broaddus, Pineland and Powell Town VFDs all responded.
The Bonillas lost all their belongings, but the community has assisted them, including the Red Cross that was at the scene within an hour of the fire. The family is staying at a church friend’s home until they can find a place.
If you would like to help the family you can contact the Bonilla's daughter, Sandy Huffman at 936-201-2810.
