The area surrounded by Highway 7 West , Loop 500, and Highway 96 South is now officially a part of the city of Center. The city council last night approved the final ordinance annexing the area. Residents in the area will be exempt from paying for additional sewer services for two years.
In a related move, the council approved the construction contract for the Lakewood Sewer extension.
Also approved at last nights meeting was a resolution in support for a Texas Capital Fund Application in support of CP Homes which is seeking to locate an assisted living facility in Center. The grant money, if approved would go towards the construction of public streets and utilities to assist with the development of the business location, which is yet to be determined.
The council also agreed to a second change order with Landscapes Unlimited for the Center Park Expansion/Softball complex. City officials emphasize the extension is related weather and landscaping work and not the construction activity, which is running on schedule.
City Mayor David Chadwick advised the city council not take action last night on filling the District 2 vacancy until they can look over the names of those being considered for the post.
