For the VFW fiscal year 2021-2022 that ended on June 30, 2022, Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904, Center, Texas, was named as an “All American Post” by the National Organization.

Each year a select group of VFW Posts are presented with All American Status which is meant to recognize outstanding VFW posts and is based on participation in VFW Programs as well as membership gains.

The Post Commander during this time was Gene Hutto who has served in this capacity since being elected in 2015. As an All American Post Commander and Gold Legacy Life Member he is authorized to wear the distinctive red and black VFW Cover with Legacy tab.

Gene is a ten year member having joined in July 2012 and also served as Post Chaplain for two years. He earned his eligibility to join the VFW for service in the Dominican Republic with the United States Army where he was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Gene proudly served his country for two years from 1963 to 1965.
