Shelby County Grill Fest Winners Announced

SHELBY COUNTY GRILL FEST

WINNERS ANNOUNCED

 

The Shelby County Grill Fest Barbecue Cook-off was held Saturday, April 2nd at the Rodeo Arena in Center, Texas, with cook teams from across east Texas and western Louisiana vying for over $6,500 in prize money and the Grand Champion trophy along with bragging rights.  

 

The barbecue cook-off was presented by Farmers State Bank and sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society. The event featured five cooking categories including beans, brisket, chicken, ribs and dessert.  

 

We are pleased to announce the top three winners in the five categories are:

 

Chicken Category:

1st Place – Squeals on Wheels, Head cook, David Lefler

2nd Place –  Lucky Dog, Head cook, Cooter Gibson

3rd Place – East Texas Smokers, Head cook, Scotty Bryce

 

Pork Ribs Category:

1st Place – .Hound Dawg Harris, Head cook, Robert Harris

2nd Place – Squeals on Wheels, Head cook,  David Lefler

3rd Place –  East Texas Smokers, Head cook, Scotty Bryce

 

Brisket 

1st Place – Backyard Q’, Head cook, Mike Bryce

2nd Place –  Shelby Savings Bank, Head cook, Shelby Savings Bank

3rd Place – Smoke Life, Head cook, Dustin Windham

 

Pinto Beans:

1st Place – Squeals on Wheels.  Head cook, David Lefler

2nd Place – Pigs & Cows Gone Wild.  Head cook, Mike Steele

3rd Place – J’s Custom Eats.  Head cook, Jeremy Snider

 

Dessert:

1st Place – Backyard Q’.  Head cook,  Mike Bryce

 

Beverage:

1st Place – W&W Texas BBQ, Tabitha Whitney

 

Squeals on Wheels cook team, led by David Lefler took the Grand Champion trophy at the 2022 Shelby County Grill Fest and the East Texas Smokers cook team with Scotty Bryce was awarded the Reserve Grand Champion trophy.

 

The 42 Tournament and Washer Pitching Competition were sponsored by Shelby Savings Bank.  This year’s 42 Tournamet had a record turnout of 18 teams.  Congratulations to Chris and Chase Mayfield, winners of the 42 Tournament and Adam Pleasant and Troy Keele who took second place.  Congratulations to Kerry West and John Yarborough, winners of the Washer Pitching Competition and  Brian Dean and Konner Windham  who took second place.

 

Thank you to Farmers State Bank, the Presenting Sponsor and all the many sponsors who supported this fun event Awards were sponsored by the City of Center. Gold Sponsors were Badders Law Firm and Pilgrim’s Pride.  Entertainment was sponsored by Rapid Payday & Title Loans and the Judge’s Table was sponsored by C&J A/C and Heating.
